Basically,he was answering a question. He'd love to stay, but Moyes' comments toward the end of the icLiverpool article seem that McHead is not in the long-term plans at Goodison...

Moyes:"At the moment he has signed a contract for three months. I've worked with him before and to be fair to him I am trying to get younger players than him in here.

"He is here as cover and he knows that. He's willing to help us in that respect."

If Everton is not looking to sign him, does anyone think that another EPL club might want to pick him up?

How good would he be @ Southampton for Beattie to play off? They've relly got no one else anyway.

Sure sounds like he's going back to Columbus to me.

My point was not that Moyes was looking to sign him, simply that before he made the 'I'm here only as cover, I'm going back to the Crew', etc, statements, this was the first time (since he went over) that I've seen him acknowledge that he would like to stay at EFC.

It is imperative to understand that the ONLY new quotes are McBride's. Fact: this Moyes quote was uttered BEFORE McBride even played a game! It is therefore NOT a definitive indication of Moyes' current line of thinking, although I admit that it is possible Moyes still thinks of Brian as mere "cover." If Brian scores even a few more goals, there may well be a significant push to extend the loan through season-end, depending on the kind of start the Crew get off to in MLS. If the loan is extended, then expect to NEVER see McBride in MLS again, since either Everton or some other EPL side (perhaps even a newly promoted one) will certainly take him due to his physical skills, work rate and EPL experience. A two year contract, with a team option for a third, would be a likely outcome IMO.

Where does McBride say that he would like to stay at Everton? What he says is:

"If something were to come about, then of course I'd have to take a different view of things, but right now I look at it as three months here and after that I will be back in Columbus."

In other words, sure, if there's a bid for him, or if Everton try and extend his loan deal, obviously, he'd have to think about it (I mean, why would he reject the possibility out of hand, even before seeing it?). But throughout this extended quote (and numerous others) McBride keeps refering to returning to Columbus.

Sounds to me like McBride is doing his diplomatic best to keep as many options open as possible. He doesn't want to publicly snub Columbus but he's letting all possible suitors know that he's ready to talk. Despite current contracts, loans, and transfer windows I think it's pretty safe to say his near-future is up in the air.

Personally, I don't expect to see him back at C-bus. He's getting a lot of play (on the field and in the media) in the UK and I suspect that if Everton doesn't offer a long term contract, some team will. But who knows what MLS wants in return.

Ultimately, MLS will have a big say in this. Garber is pretty atamant about having US talent here and having Joe Max, Stewart and Hejduk back are considered "great signings" by the front office brass.

MLS stopped Beasley from going and may have stopped Mathis & McBride from going in the past. They may set the price too high.

Given that the context of taking the coaches decision was in talking about EFC next year, I took it to mean McBrides long term future with EFC. But, wth, opinions are like, well, you know. We all have em'!;)

Right now Everton and C-bus are the only two options -- and given the difference in schedules and Brian's contract, I tend to believe it's now or never for Brian and Europe.

Moyes quote above came before Brian's 4 goals in 5 games performance. He probably hasn't changed his mind, but as BlueKipper says - you never know.

Beattie and McBride are fairly similar players. Plus, when he is not injured, they have Marian Pahars, who is considered by most Southampton fans to be the best player on the side. There is also their big-money, so-far flop Agustin Delgado (Equadorian Int'l), who just returned to the club after running out.

If Southampton does qualify for a European tournament, I can very well see them having a couple of million pounds to spend, but whether or not that would involve strikers is an interesting question. They might want to do more to make sure they don't lose some of their best players (Beattie and Fabrices Fernandes) who are almost always being featured in transfer rumors.

Gordon Strachan would be a good manager to work with for Brian McBride. Another option would be one of the promotion candidates:

Leicester City and Portsmouth are both looking at securing the automatic promotion spots - Portsmouth in particular has money to burn and doesn't mind spending it on veteren players (Paul Merson, Robert Prosnecki in the past and others). Their chairman is a naturalized US citizen and he will not be satisfied with barely scraping by. Leicester is going to struggle financially for a few years even if they do get promoted.

Among the other promotion hopefuls: Reading, Sheffield United, Wolverhampton and Nottingham Forest - Reading and Sheffield United will be looking to consolidate and establish themselves. Forest is in pretty rough shape financially. Wolves nearly bought Joe-Max Moore and would probably like to upgrade at forward. Reading already features former MLS keeper Marcus Hahnemann.

Other EPL teams that might benefit from a rugged, physical forward: Charlton, Tottenham (he would work great with Robbie Keane - Les Ferdinand is gone and Teddy Sheringham is winding down), Middlesbrough (since Boksic is likely gone and Maccarone is looking less and less like a top-caliber striker), Leeds (who is thin at the position, although they do have Viduka who plays a similar role - BMB would probably make an awesome pairing with the Duke, though as both are skillful big guys) . . .

There are many teams that McBride could help. The fact that he brings so much to the table apart from goal scoring is a big plus too. Many of the British teams that are struggling do so because they have youthful and/or Continental attacking players who would prefer not to have defensive responsibilities. With BMB's work ethic and his willingness to mix it up in both boxes, he would be a great fit at any mid-level EPL team.

    Central Park South,
Supposedly, his family is against moving permanently to England. Don't know how much that is coming into play with respect to a transfer.

The fans and the press in England have decided on Macca and ignored our suggestions of McHead, etc..

Just a common nickname for someone having the Mc attached to their name. It's used as an affectionate term and generally for good players.

Except, maybe, McFragile; and Bake sounds much too baseball. They call McAtteer Macca too, don't they.

If he ends up returning to MLS will there be many "Always the bridesmaid and never the bride" jokes?

Wouldn't that be "Always the McBridesmaid and never the McBride?"
