    Prior thread: https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/k...-arsenal-summer-2024-transfer-thread.2129314/

Don't expect much action in January, I think it will depend a lot on who is fit as to whether there is a short-term need at a given position.

January can be the time to buy from places like Brazil as they are on break. Maybe a young 6 brought in to learn under Jorginho and Partey for a few months until they leave, with a higher profile, more expensive, ready made 6 (Tchouameni mentioned in the last thread) to come in the summer?

Here's Brazilian defender I've seen linked to Arsenal and Madrid, because Arteta can't buy enough defenders. 100m release clause but no way anyone pays that.

I can definitely see us moving for another big central striker if one that is at our liking (and price) is available. That still seems to be an area we have light coverage if Kai has to sit for any extended period.

I was one of those a bit enamored with Isak. (Now he's injured yet again, so maybe it was fortunate he didn't come) So I still would like to see this kind of signing. But I don't sense that they club is thinking at all like you or I.

Ha. God no. He seems like just the player that NYRB would throw/waste money on.

p.s. I think this thread may more likely become the what-does-Citeh-do-after-losing-Rodri thread?

100% agree but I have a very hard time figuring out who we might pursue even if we were talking summer window.

Will Sesko be ready to leave? And would the price tag be at something Edu is willing to pay?

Gyokeres is putting up crazy numbers in Portugal again but I don't see it unless the price really drops. But why would it?

I don't see them going for a 9 until Jesus leaves. Or is seriously injured.

Edu needs to lodge a bid or two at their target to drive up the price like they did for Rice.

I was good with us signing Sesko last summer in large part because he was young and relatively cheap. With his extension signed he likely doesn't come as cheap and so far he isn't performing well enough to justify the higher price tag for next summer.

Agreed. The opportunity to get him cheap(ish) has passed. Next summer they are highly likely to demand full release or nothing. Someone will pay it but I highly doubt it is us.

Agreed. I think next summer may be his time to move. I'm sure he is going to want starting minutes and it will likely be in our best interest to move on.

I’m just not sure who that player is. Where is the true elite 9 that is actually getable?

Gyökeres is such a weird one. He’ll be 27 next summer. He was already 22 when he went to Coventry and started scoring goals at a decent rate, but even the numbers there aren’t that great. He blows up at age 25 in Portugal.

Maybe he’s the new Drogba or Giroud in terms of being a late bloomer. Or maybe he’s just putting up crazy numbers against shitty teams in a crappy league.

I'm not sure you need a "true elite" 9. With the work Havertz has done I think we would be fine keeping him as the starter and bringing in someone young that can give him a rest and push him to be his best. Ideally I think we need someone 6'+ that plays with strength. I would prefer 6'2"+. Think Sesko would have been a good option for that but I feel like he is gonna be too expensive now. Ferguson could be an option but he seems to have fallen off. Not sure what other options would make sense. Would be nice if we could find a development option out of South America that we could pick up in Jan.

I would argue that we already have an elite 9 in Havertz. As for Ferguson, his productivity in the league has dropped off but he has shown he can produce in the league. He's still scoring with Ireland and with Brighton U21s. The positive of his current goal drought is that it brings his cost down. He's one that would be worth pursuing, imo.

I think I’m still on board with Ferguson for big money regardless of his recent output because I think the potential reward still outweighs the risk, but it’s Brighton. They aren’t dropping his price any time soon.

Possibly. Most sites have his value as dropping 20m from his price last year. Maybe a possible January transfer?

If they aren't playing him in the 1st team, he may be one of the few high potential options available in Jan. TM has him worth 45m euro. But we are talking about Brighton and he is contracted through 2029. A year ago when he was worth 65m Brighton supposedly wanted 100m. I'd be extremely surprised if they asked for anything less than 75m now.

I don't disagree. We'll see how much time he gets between now and then.

Not a lawyer, but I doubt this is a seismic change and players will start walking away from contracts whenever they feel like it.

I don't know all the details of the Diarra situation, and maybe some fault lies with him, but it sure seems like he was getting screwed and FIFA was only interested in protecting Lokomotiv's financial interests.

FIFA claim to act in the "best interests of the game" but we all know that's BS and they don't really care about the players or fans. Maybe this ruling will give players a seat at the table and more of a say in contract disputes and fixture congestion. Fans...we're probably still SOL.

FIFA won't have the balls to stand up to clubs in certain areas of the world where they confiscate passports, and I don't think this will have huge ramifications but it should at least force some changes into FIFA and club contracts.

Definitely could use some depth at LB. 10 players who already play there clearly is not enough.

(yes, it’s Hagn, so thankfully this isn’t too likely)

I don't know the first thing about him but using the Saliba pathway could be the way to handle this lad if it happens
