Wenger says he's still looking for cover at right back and that the Trabelsi deal isn't neccessarily dead: http://www.arsenal.com/article.asp?...ublid=&Title=Wenger+may+make+one+more+signing If we do manage to get Trabelsi in, surely it would be with a view to making him first choice right-back rather than backup to Lauren? Which begs the question, what would happen to Lauren then?
it looks like what wenger is doing is making trabelsi wait, so he can see that hes not going to go anywhere else for better terms, then maybe go in for him again before the t.window closes
I dunno, I would rather give Hoyte some time. At this time last year, did we know what we had in Clichy? I didn't, and I was worried about LB cover. Obviously, I'm pretty happy. I want to see what Hoyte can do before we go looking to bring someone else in. I'd rather save the money. Now, I've always defended Cygan, and I did not see him yesterday, but it seems to me like getting Sol established back in the lineup is more important and if he's not going to stay with the team, then I think we need better central backup...
At this point I'd give Senderos a go in the centre instead of Cygan. He's an accident waiting to happen at the moment.
we need extra cover as well as hoyte. we cannot rely on cygan everytime campbell or toure is out because he is a liabilty and if we use him for long stretches, could cost us. im sure trabelsi would be able to cover a central defense role
heres what i reckon... the sales of wiltord and parlour have left us short on the right side of midfield, signing a right back would obviously free up lauren. penant is a out and out winger so really its only ljungberg who is happy there.
Senderos wasn't on the bench against Everton and Middlesbrough; I find that quite worrying. Does Wenger think Senderos isn't ready yet? Personally I don't think Wenger will drop Cygan; he'll persevere with him until Campbell gets back from injury.
You have to remember, we've released perfectly 'decent' players in the past. Moritz Volze being a very good example. A perfectly adequate defender and full back but not the kind of player with the calibre to 'up' a team. Such acquisitions are rarer and come by a lot less often. Reyes and Cesc being excellent examples. The latter, the jury still out on though, is proving very quickly otherwise. As far as squad's concerned. I think we definitely need another defender and definitely a world class or speedy right winger/midfielder. Joaquin looks set to replace Figo at Real Madrid. Pennant imo, is too average a player. Look at it this way...would he be able to pass the likes of Zambrota, Carlos in a european tie? Kaka, has said he he wants to play in England sometime in his career and specifically for AFC. This is good news, and considering he is into a year on his 3-yr contract at AC, acquiring him could be the coup of the decade. Oddo who has recently been linked to us is a very good defender, and so is Trabelsi. I wouldn't mind seeing either of these two at AFC.
I do think they are going in for Trabelsi or Oddo, for the right side of defense. I would like to see another central defender though. With as much forward movement as Arsenal have, we can get caught out on the break - which is exactly the game 'Boro played extrememly well (until we tore them apart!). I do agree with those of the opinion that Cygan is a liability. He was bloody awful on Sunday and not exactly confident against Everton. Senderos is made of glass or balsa wood or something. Someone glue him back together at some point, please. But do buy a classy, experienced central defender to either back up or complement Sol for this season, Mr. Wenger!
On that point, we signed Lauren, what 4 years ago in May 2000. Now im pretty sure when he signed it was for 5 years and I can't remember anything about a contract renewal at all (waiting for someone to say otherwise..) which would mean he could be going at the end of the year anyway. Again, pure speculation.....
I'm happy to stick with Ralph, but, good point Rick, maybe he wants to go back to Spain or Cameroon? Isn't Trabelsi too well established to come as coverage? Shame that he got injured coz I think we should have let Ajax take JA.
This article fromthe BBC about Wenger's contract talks mentions that he's keen for Lauren (among others) to sign an extension: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/a/arsenal/3587402.stm
Exactly why we need another good defender....Trablesi or Oddo. Cygan causes me to rapidly age every time he is even near the ball or basically sets foot on the pitch.
Trabelsi's gone on strike at Ajax. Won't train until he finds a new club, and only we're in the running to get him as Newcastle went and got Carr. Then again, Roman ...
Except Trabelsi and Oddo have no bearing on Cygan. You're not going to play either of them (or Ralph) in the center of the pitch.
He Already Has Paulo Ferrira And Glen Johnson As Back Up I Cant See Him Wasting Any More Of His Money, Im Surprised I Havnt Heard Man Ure Enter The Equasion Yet
