I know people will probably hate me for saying so but, does anyone miss him doing Argentine league matches and the highlight show on FSC? I wish he was on Bein Sports. He was pretty entertaining. Just wanted to throw this out there to see what you guys thoughts are.
There was another dude who was much better than Max. I wish I could remember his name. He was South American, Chilean I think.
I don't think so. That name doesn't "ring a bell". The dude I'm talking about used to hum a tune to himself when play was boring. God, I wish I could remember his name!
It's Christian Bozzo her is a thread about him https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads/christian-bozzo-born-legend.202045/
They were both great together. I remember one Superclassico Boca vs River. 2 long haired players one for Boca and one for River were going for the ball names of the players escape me now but Bretos goes"Hey it's the rhythm section of the Scorpions." I was on the floor cracking up.
I wish there was a way we could dig up quotes from these 2 doing the Argentine games. I loved hearing these guys week in week out. Bein Sport needs to get these 2 and get the Argentine league rights.
He was good too not as good as the Bretos/Bozzo team though. I really miss the Argentine league. I was a big River fan at the time FSC had the rights.
Tonight I might have to dig out my VHS tapes of some superclassicos I have and see if I can get some quotes to put on here.
I loved the Argentine league b\c of the support. The most rabid, vocal support in the world - always on the verge of a riot. FoxDeportes broadcasts the South American Copas, so I still get to see some Argentine clubs. No reason for Fox not to get the rights back - they have a big whole in their programming on weekend afternoons.
Yeah I have DirecTV and Fox Deportes and GolTV are sadly in the Spanish only packages now. Hopefully they will get the Argentine rights back now that they lost the EPL to NBC.
Sort of. They cover it pretty poorly though (giving tape-delayed UEFA Champions League matches priority).
I agree 100%. I loved the Argentine games that Max did. IMO, he struck the perfect balance between humor and insight, as well as conveying the emotion of the games very well.
Yeah my wife thinks I'm nuts. Watching old matches. She doesn't really get my passion for football. The 2 Superclassicos I have on tape are from 2002. The summer tournament "Torneo de Verano" and the Apatura both with Bretos and Bozzo commentating. I wish I could have a viewing party with you guys to watch and laugh at their funny quotes. One day I'll transcribe their funny quotes of these 2 matches and post them here. Man I miss them on FSC.
The timing of this is funny for me because i always think of max when i watch the Club World Cup. It was the perfect forum for his goofiness. With Christopher Sullivan throwing in his bizarro facts and Bretos cracking jokes it added light to what was sometimes a dry event. Someone needs to bring max back and let him call the south american matches!
^ Max has a pretty cushy gig at ESPN. He's done well for himself. I do miss the good ol' days, though.
I wish he was the 2nd PBP instead of Glenn Davis for ESPN. He'd probably be a little more toned down than he was at FOX Soccer though lol
I read an article earlier this year about Maxi Rodriguez and how dismayed he was at the erosion of quality in the Argentine League. Not sure if it's true or perceived, but it was interesting.
