I have seen s few posts suggesting that Mauro isn't 100% committed to Dallas. Can anyone fill in the backstory for me?
Mostly I think it's just that Dallas won't be able to afford him once a bigger club comes calling. And they will if he continues to play like he usually does.
There was a lot of speculation (especially from Peter) about something being off about him last season when we would see him disappear for many games surrounding a murky "injury." Haven't been without him much this season so who knows?
Maybe I read it wrong but, in previous seasons, his play seemed to improve with Castillo off the pitch. However, he combined well with raton so it's probably break even. As far as his personality goes, he seems the boring type and only interested in soccer. That can make one look moody.
Yep nailed it...not sure I'd read too much into his body language which doesn't hide his frustration when we aren't moving well. The missing time during the season was definitely strange last season, but OP seems the type of coach who knows how to manage his players and understands the quirkiness that can be part of dealing with pro athletes' personalities.
There is no secret Mauro is "different". He was maybe more "homesick" than anything else. He's definitely better this year, I believe his girlfriend moved here - but I stand by my suggestion the Castillo Maneuver has given Diaz a useable option for bolting the first time he gets an offer he's interested in.
I don't think that maneuver will ever work again. The Hunts prevailed on what to do this time against seasoned FO folks but I believe it it happens again the S American method of dealing with this will be used. After that no one will ever try it again.
When my son asks why he doesn't smile or talk much, I explain that English isn't his first language and coupled with probably being naturally shy makes it tough for him. That's just my perception.
Yeah, him and Maxi are always having a good time on Instagram so he does have fun in his own element.
https://www.fcdallas.com/post/2017/05/11/mauro-diaz-returns-full-training-fc-dallas-road-recovery Old thread, but I figured this bit of good news deserved a posting. However:
Guys. There may only be a few more games without Mauro. Diaz: "I'm picking up the pace. The other week I went back to full training with the group and I hope to play in 2 or 3 weeks." http://www.marca.com/futbol/estados-unidos/2017/05/16/591b414c268e3eb4048b46d3.html
One of the more intriguing things to me is how Mauro being back changes how the team and certain players look. Will FCD go back to a 4-2-3-1? If not what else could they trot out there when Mauro is on the field? If only one forward where do Tesho and Colman play because right now Urruti is going to get the most minutes at forward. Does Lamah look better with Mauro, the same or worse? Same question for Colman. Team may take a few lumps before they get used to playing with him again but should come out of it much better.
I think that Colman may benefit more than anyone else. He makes good runs and gets into good spots. If nothing else, maybe Diaz can bounce the ball off of Colman into yhe goal?

Very concerned everyone is putting a lot on Mauro's return. As the official pessimist of the club's fan base, I just want to temper everyone's anticipation with a reminder that he's returning from an Achilles rupture. Odds are vastly on the side it will take him until next season to really find his form. While, like all of you, I hope he's the Unicorn again this season, history just isn't with him here. Certainly he'll play but I hope the fan base doesn't freak out or be surprised if he's just not the same guy whenever he returns. Dallas needs to learn to win without him, and whatever they do get from him will be gravy. Good news is The Huntsmen are a very good team without him, but they are going to need some of these new pieces to find their form if the team is going to win MLS Cup, even if Mauro is great later this summer/early fall.
I agree. The Mavericks Wesley Matthews had this recently and said his second year back he felt much better than his first. I'm hoping there are degrees to the injury and that Diaz is able to heal quicker but like Peter I'm not counting on it just hoping for it.
