http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/music/2646739.stm For all you disco mavens out there. Bee Gees are one of the most reviled groups in all of history, but if you look at their stuff prior to Saturday Night Fever, really it doesn't suck.
Reports indicate he was suffering from a bout of Night Fever. Just kidding. Not to come out as a Bee Gee afficianado or anything, but they also hold a record for being the only band to have a number 1 song in 4 decades (60,70,80,90's) (last time I checked). They were forever painted as disco hookers, but as Obie mentioned some of their 1975 and earlier stuff wasn't bad, and Barry Gibb actually wrote R & B songs for Dionne Warwick (Heartbreaker) and Country/Pop songs for Dolly Parton (Islands in the Stream) among others. They've had a remarkable and diverse career, even if they weren't as good as the Beatles or as cool as the Stones. I hope Maurice turns out ok.
stayin' alive! Gotta disagree, Saturday Night Fever was their great stuff, that and Main Course (c'mon, Jive Talking!), it's their 60s stuff that sucked.
Anyone who has actually been on a dance floor when "Stayin Alive" played understands why it was such a big hit. A great dance song, no matter how corny and overplayed it has become.
When I heard the news yesterday, I started humming "Staying Alive" You can be honest if you also did that.
Actually, on New Year's Day, my wife actually had to hum "Staying Alive" during a rousing game of Cranium. None of our team got the answer. I wonder...
