    Huntelaar helps with good press.

Just one game in the Bundesliga today: Schalke 04 v Hertha Berlin at 12:00 eastern. Some (3, so far) Schalke players tested positive for Covid this week, but the game will still be played today, apparently.

    Hoppe starts!!!

Schalke lost 1-2, but Hoppe went the full distance (Huntelaar lasted 77').

    Hoppe looked rusty today.

For someone who moves as well as he does, he has to learn how to be more purposeful in his runs. And he needs to bulk up.

Well, this was a throwaway game. Didn't matter.

60' gone and I tuned in on 40'. Hoppe is looking very, very good: an excellent assist for Schalke's 3rd goal - no Virginia, that's not a typo ;) - and a very good hockey assist on Schalke's equalizer.

He's playing a bit deep, as a secondary striker/attacking midfielder behind Hunter and he looks full of menace.

    Edit:
65' gone and Hoppe makes it 4-2 with a very well-taken goal. Flick sprang Frankfurt's Kamikaze-like high press with a clever backheel, erm . . . flick :p on the halfway and Matt ran straight and true, unopposed, to finish with a well angled shot to the far post. With so much time to think, a lot of strikers would have choked, but he was very calm and composed.

This is really something. Arguably the worst Bundesliga team in 30 years vs a team still very much in contention for a Champions League spot heading into the final week of action. And Schalke are up 4-2.

Six goals this campaign for the rookie? Not shabby at all. I don’t think Pulisic scored six goals in a Bundesliga season. So Hoppe has that going for him! :)

I don't think any other YA has, except for Eric Wynalda.

Ah yes, you're right. I had it in my mind that Wynalda was the only YA that had ever scored more than 5, but I must have been thinking of American born/raised players.

    And zero own goals ;)

Take a look when Hoppe decided when and how to shoot!
    Anwser: at the ********ing Halfline!

Bring goalie left, slide with right. Almost pulisic vs. man City last year goal.
