What a day between you saving yourself for the "one" and another long time poster announcing that Aaronson is his new boyfriend.
Germany is still in super lockdown, legally you can only meet with one other household. 200 fans tried to break into Schalke to confront the players. I guess violin music gets better in 2. Liga. Schalke Ultras make their way down to the stadium before turning towards where the players would usually come out of the Veltins Arena after a game. pic.twitter.com/18y88RVOOX— Archie Rhind-Tutt (@archiert1) February 20, 2021
12 games to go. Let's look at league placement and goals against, so we can forecast where Hoppe's remaining goals are going to come from. @ Stuttgart (10 | 35) v Mainz (17 | 43) @ Wolfsburg (3 | 19) [Brooks] v Monchengladbach (8 | 33) @ Leverkusen (5 | 24) v Augsburg (13 | 35) @ Freiburg (9 | 34) @ Arminia (16 | 38) v Hertha (15 | 40) @ Hoffenheim (11 | 39) [Richards] v Frankfurt (4 | 30) @ Koln (14 | 36) I bolded the seven teams that are bottom half of the table and have allowed 35 or more goals - an arbitrary number. Stretching a little we could include 8 & 9 Monchengladbach (33) and Freiburg (34). One could argue that Hoffenheim will be stingier now with Richards, but only 3/4/5 Wolfsburg (19), Frankfurt (30), and Leverkusen (24) should present any real difficulty. Hoppe needs a goal ASAP to reopen the floodgates.
Hoppe with a 5.0 kicker rating against Dortmund (1 best, 6 worst). Strambouli got a BW 6 rating. Harit and Benjoulib also got 5’s. So, it seems Hoppe is on good company with this team at least. Some goals would sure help him of course. He does seem active these past games but ineffective without the service (sound familiar?).
So, he's def staying Matthew Hoppe intends on staying at Schalke -- even if they get relegated to the 2. Bundesliga. 🗣"Schalke gave me a chance and bet on me ... I want to give something back to the club, especially in this difficult phase, and I am incredibly grateful." (h/t @UsmntU) pic.twitter.com/egYl6yszEz— USMNT Only (@usmntonly) February 22, 2021
Clearly feels loyalty to Schalke and I don't blame him. That said, you don't want to tie yourself to a sinking ship. We'll see what happens. Not gonna predict anything seems a range of outcomes from we never really hear from him again to Schalke stays up and he plays a large part in their rebuild.
Or, another possibility is that he goes on loan to Juve and scores more goals there then he's ever scored before.
Schalke's collapse does have a certain Kaiserslautern feel to it. Lots of similarities between the cities and their respective football clubs, if I head right on the Talking Fussball podcast.
Several American players did on my FIFA 21 career mode club--especially Josh Sargent. The virtual-virtual BigSoccer community in the game went bananas, though, when Sarg dropped down to 3.Liga. They weren't complaining when he was sold two years later to Arsenal, though. BigSoccer is so fickle, you know? But, I must say it's nice starting off with a cool $500 million to spend.
Don't remember hearing anything him working for Sunderland, never mind playing for them or anyone else at league level. What did happen is that the club put Linden up with a host family. The family had a daughter and they now have a grandchild, courtesy of her and Gooch getting together. Apparently Linden and his partner live about a mile down the road. Having grandma around is a massive help with a newborn, especially when the mom is just out of her teens.
There was a player revolt after the BVB game against the coach. The Schalke players may throw the game to get Gross fired. Poor kid.
Do you have an article for us to read about this? EDIT: Ok, here's something out of the Netherlands for some reason. It says Schalke's interim coach Gross confuses his own players' names and doesn't always know the names of the opponents. The players also blame the trainer for all the injuries. But there's not much to the "article", no citations or anything, and that's all I can find on the subject.
I've diagrammed a plan of sorts ... One: On to Stuttgart Hoppe's just begun Two: Mainz is through Three: Schalke's men are on a spree Four: Harit and Hoppe combine to score Five: Hoppe continues his goal-scoring drive Six: Hoppe shows off his new free kicks Seven: Hoppe backheels Freiburg to heaven Eight: Arminia has got a date Nine: The Hertha guys must let Hoppe shine Ten: Hoffenheim is Richards' den Eleven: Frankfurt concedes goals five/six/seven Twelve: Huntelaar helps Hoppe to delve Thirteen: Schalke goes down without being seen Fourteen: Zero hour, Hoppe cuts the cable Fifteen: Hoppe goes in where Sargent has been Sixteen: We all come out like the USMNT Everyone should know where the inspiration comes from without being told, but here it is: "The operation count-off was as follows: - One: down to the road block we've just begun. - Two: the guards are through. - Three: the Major's men are on a spree. - Four: Major and Wladislaw go through the door. - Five: Pinkley stays out in the drive. - Six: the Major gives the rope a fix. - Seven: Wladislaw throws the hook to heaven. - Eight: Jiminez has got a date. - Nine: the other guys go up the line. - Ten: Sawyer and Gilpin are in the pen. - Eleven: Posey guards points Five and Seven. - Twelve: Wladislaw and the Major go down to delve. - Thirteen: Franko goes up without being seen. - Fourteen: Zero hour, Jiminez cuts the cable, Franko cuts the phone. - Fifteen: Franko goes in where the others have been. - Sixteen: we all come out like it's Halloween."
Not sure if this was posted upstream, but per Schalke's Twitter Hoppe was the B1 Rookie of the Month (for January). Collect that hardware! Nochmals Gratulation zur Wahl zum #BLRookie des Monats Januar, Matthew!
His Dad is from from England and there was some talk about "having relatives nearby" helping with the adjustment to living in England and all that. The problem with that idea is that Colchester - his Dad's home town - is 300 miles from Sunderland, which is 5 hours by car or 6 hours by train, maybe more. It's the kind of trip you'd undertake 2-3 times a year. Living in Sunderland, it'd actually have been easier to connect with his mother's family in Dublin: it's a one-hour-five-minutes flight from Newcastle.
