I’ve googled Hoppe’s salary at Mallorca a couple of times and it’s always a number in the $150-200,000 a year range.

No way that is accurate. The convention is that the player's salary is the transfer fee paid, divided by the number of years on the contract which, since Mallorca paid Schalke $4 million for him on a 4-year deal, works out at a salary of $1 million a year.

That's a rule of thumb not an actual rule, and rules were meant to be broken anyway, so his salary may very well be a good bit below that, but 80% below? No way would any agent have agreed to that for fear of Hoppe suing him for negligence. If he accepted a low salary to go to La Liga, he could be on about $7-800k and then didn't have the muscle to compel Mallorca to pick up his agent's fees, it's possible that he could be on $5-600k before tax, but not lower.

For those wanting Hoppe to play the 9 I find it unlikely for him to play there in Atlanta when they have both Martinez and Dwyer. I know Martinez will be out another 6 weeks. If he goes to Atlanta I expect him to play wing.

This season they seem to have started with a 4-3-3 in the first 6 games, but played variations on a 4-2-3-1 in the last two. Last season, the same coach mostly played 5-3-2, 3-5-2 or a flat 3-5-2 but he did play other formations fairly often.

Basically, he isn't wedded to a particular system so he may well adjust according to the opposition. If so, unless he wants a pure #9 Hoppe will need to be versatile or acquire that pretty quickly.

Well, if Hoppe can't beat out Dwyer for the #9 spot, he really doesn't deserve to see the field for Mallorca

This was assuming Josef were injured. But on second thought, I could see Josef and Hoppe's personalities really vibing. Would be fun to watch them annoy the daylights out of the opposition

If they could hold PSG to a cleansheet, that'd be a huge WIN.

I think Hoppe has a nice future but I do wonder if we overrated where he was as a player due to the hat trick and also his attitude at the Gold Cup (reason I bring this up is most people talk about Hoppe's attitude reminding them.of Deuce)

I know a lot of people (myself included) have mentioned him having an awful agent but the fact he cannot get any time on a team that plays 2 strikers and struggles to score is concerning

I can honestly say that the hat trick had huge impact on me. I made the mistake of watching waaay too much of Schalke after that.

It also made me watch too much Schalke after that as the previous poster said!
We also see that typical US fan thing going on here.
After the goal spurt he was pretty ineffective overall on the field and in and out of the line up. Much of his GC play was based on attitude, one goal, and comparing hm to a US great. Now we have the Mallorca situation.

So we have Hoppe is clearly very good and the reason he didn‘t look even better at Schalke was because the rest of the team sucked all of the time.
He has tude like Demps and we need that so he must be real good.
Mallorca‘s staff is clearly biased against him. It‘s the old Yank prejudice thing going on. The pattern is developing like usual.

That‘s why this kid needs to play. We really have no clue what he is, but boy we are gonna find ways to justify him in one way or another. This Atlanta move has to happen. He will get every chance possible. I’m really hOPPEing it happens.

He needs to set the hook and land that move.
