Colour me unimpressed. He came on in the 74th minute with Mallorca chasing an equalizer and 4+ minutes of extra time - out of an eventual 6 - already on the clock, giving him 20 minutes to make an impact. He had no real opportunities and clearly didn't get any usable service but take a look at 1.23-50 on that clip. Every second counts for Mallorca and Hoppe chases a hopeful-cum-hopeless punt masquerading as a cross that is nowhere near a 50-50 ball and makes a clumsy jump . . . into the keeper, who predictably makes a meal of it and runs down the clock for about 30 seconds to disrupt any desperately needed momentum. It's pretty unlikely that he could have avoided contact completely, but he made zero effort to pull out of what any striker knows is destined to be a foul against him. Spanish referees are more indulgent of the goalie in these situations but not even trying killed any possibility of the ref pushing the keeper to shut up and get on with the game.
Colo(u)r me very pleasantly surprised that Hoppe not only made the bench but played in a game for Mallorca given all the doom and gloom of last year.
100% agree. Then again, it wasn't much of a game so the editors of the highlights clip the video was copied from had to show all 5 - or was it 6? - replays to fill their allotted 5 minutes
It's a cup match and they are leading 2-1. The Brit announcer is calling him "Hopp-uh." 🔄 Triple cambio en el @RCD_Mallorca:🔺 Sánchez, Kang-In y Hoppe.🔻 Amath, Take y Abdón.⏱ Min. 82: 2-1. pic.twitter.com/TcuShSFPbN— FutbolMallorca (@FutbolMallorca) January 15, 2022
Glad to see him playing again and moving well. In that game against Real Madrid he was playing well but he wasn't moving well, glad to see he has gotten over it. It's good to see he was getting in scoring positions too. I'm hopeful.
Hoppe competing with Sargent for the most hilarious challenge of the day. In Hoppe's case, he defended a thrown like an inbounds play in basketball jumping up and down with his arms in the air. Probably would have been a yellow if not for the sub that was about to come on.
He's 20 years old and getting time in La Liga, even if it's limited. The problem is, we expect 18–21-year-old strikers to start for the national team because there are zero players older who are good enough. He Sargent, Pepi, etc. are still developing and are being shoved into the starting lineup way younger than we would like.
Mallorca negotiating transfer of Simone Zaza from Torino, coach doesn't need four strikers so either Abdón or Hoppe will be heading out. https://okdiario.com/baleares/fichaje-9-obligara-salir-abdon-o-hoppe-8407445 Report states Abdón could go to the Segunda, while Hoppe has interest from Germany. An article from Diario de Mallorca, however, indicates Hoppe was offered to several clubs in the Segunda but none showed any interest in him: https://www.diariodemallorca.es/rcd...-ofrecido-hoppe-equipos-segunda-61747626.html
I'm not a Mallorca expert but I did check Hoppe and the team's stats a bit ago and pretty sure he's mostly been a sub, with a handful of starts. Had a decent number of appearances, but not really the starter, if my memory serves.
Only for Copa games now. He was the #1 when Ángel was injured and Fer Niño had not established himself yet. Right now he's #3.
In the Segunda, yes, but not this season. This season, he's started only 4 out of 22 games and has been subbed on in another 11, mostly cameos. He's pretty similar to Jordan Hugill at Norwich: a guy in his late 20s who's never performed in D1 but is pretty useful for a promotion challenger. Those guys are loaned out if a team thinks relegation is likely or offloaded if they think think things are going well. Since they got him on a free and he's under contract until 2024, the transfer fee should be pretty low and may even be zero if Mallorca think they're both better off if he is helped to find someplace to make a fresh start.

Hoppe is so much better on the ball than Zardes, so much more comfortable with fast combinations, a much better touch ... watching him after coming on today for Mallorca.
Yeah. No luck scoring - but usually when he touched the ball something interesting happened. He acts quickly. He had a nice pass near the end, but the striker couldn't make a clean first touch... it was a line drive, but real good vision.
He was also open in the box on a header by the winger (?) but he went for a header on goal instead. Would have been a difficult cushioned header to Hoppe.
