Mallorca are sitting in 8th place in La Liga. They are no relegation fodder. Hoppe has a great opportunity. First the Bundesliga and then La Liga. I know a few guys who would die for the opportunity Hoppe has been given. I hope he makes the best of it. He's got good physical attributes. He is quick and strong with decent technical ability. He is two footed. I would like to see him work on his balance and dribbling ability to add another dimension to his game. He can create lots of goals. You'd like to see him play at a consistently higher level. https://www.footballcritic.com/matthew-hoppe/profile/333842
They’re 4 games in out of 38. But early to make any judgment on where they’ll stand at the end of the year. I think they’ve put together a squad good enough to stay up, but their overall youth might come with growing pains and dropped points where a more experienced side would’ve faired better.
2 wins out of 4 games. Loss @ Athletico Madrid. Draw with Betis at home. 3 goals for, 3 goals against. They aren't going to get relegated, and they aren't going to finish top 3. This is pretty much guaranteed unless they lose the injury lottery. Smells like mid-table.
I hope so but it is so early in the season. Based on history, Mallorca will be fighting to stay up this season. In the EPL Everton was top of the table first couple of weeks last year and Spurs were top of the table this season up until last weekend. A lot of time for things to happen. If Hoppe becomes a solid player for them this yr they have a good chance of staying up.
By that logic Man City wouldn’t have won the EPL last year. Also their loss was to Bilbao. Like I said I think they have a strong enough squad to stay up. Problem is they’re young and inexperienced. They’re going to have problems with consistency.
Sorry, Athletic Bilbao, one of the Basque clubs. It sounds like we are in agreement. Anyway, this is the perfect club for Hoppe to play. Safe from relegation, but not filled with superstars that keep him on the bench.
I’m happy to see Hoppe at RCD Mallorca but idk why you think they are “safe from relegation” - I doubt anyone at the club shares that same feeling. As a newly promoted side the only goal is stay in the division and while they have had a good start, they are far away from that goal.
There are many reasons. I watched parts of all their games. The first thing I look at is the goalkeeper. Manolo Reina looks a solid keeper. Started all 4 matches, with 0.75 goals per 90 minutes. Defensively they look ok, but with some poor marking lapses. Valjent is a good center back. In their first 4 games they gave up 2, 0, 0, and 1 goals. Not bad. Bilbao is a good team, but they won the possession against them. Their midfield is solid. They have 2 young, exciting attacking players in Takefusa Kubo and Kang-in Lee (new to the squad). Nino is lively in attack and Dani Rodriguez is calm and skillful. There is nothing about this team that says relegation. Good balance in attack and defense. If they can get more mental concentration in defense and Hoppe can put a few in, they can rise in the table. They are not at the level of Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Valencia, Barcelona, or Seville, but they are not a relegation team. Solidly midtable.
Is Spain on crowd restrictions still or is this a typical crowd for Mallorca? Defender injured so the first sub will be used in the back line. Does it make me a bad person if my first thought on seeing that is that it reduces Hoppe's chance of getting in rather than the well being of the injured player? Guilty.
He's coming on for Fer Niño in the 60th minute. 60’ ⏱ 𝐒𝐔𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐓𝐔𝐂𝐈𝐎́𝐍⬅️ Amath & F. Niño. ➡️ Lago Junior & Hoppe. #RCDMallorcaVillarreal @IC_Serveis pic.twitter.com/5TipzXuHeU— Real Mallorca (@RCD_Mallorca) September 19, 2021
Hoppe has the ball in the back of the net, but ruled out for outside. Close-ish, but clearly off. Great cross from the and cool sweeping finish to the near post.
