Awesome for Matt if their #1 is indeed leaving. I'm not sure what Turner has ever done to show that he is at the level of a team that regularly qualifies for continental competitions in a top league. Good luck Matt!

Tom Bogert confirmed it, but this price is probably indicates he will be a starter. Ligue 1 clubs have to be fairly judicious with their spending

You have to assume that for $8M he'll be given every opportunity to claim the #1 and he's not being brought in strictly as the backup. I've always been of the opinion that Matt hasn't shown his best stuff since moving to Europe. I hope this provides him the opportunity he needs to do just that.

Speak for yourself. Matt seems like a super nice guy (maybe part of his problem) and the fact that he's even had this career to play in the PL and a World Cup is a great story. It's a bummer that his confidence seems cratered but he's still young enough to improve/recover the mental side. He's a good shot blocker and he's capable of making good passes - it's his lack of ball control and possession that is required now of top goalies - he may not become elite at that, but he could learn to distill what works for him and what doesn't and make better choices which could improve his confidence.

But even if he doesn't ever recover, I'm still a fan.

Looks like a completely different NT keeper than the guy who coolly stepped in and handled a World Cup pretty well. He needs regular club play bad, Euro benches (even some relatively high level ones)have seemingly made him regress.

    2021 GC Turner was great.

    That was probably peak Turner.

    He looks way worse now.

I'm also a fan, but he becomes irrelevant from the NT point of view.

The only way he goes to Lyon is if Peri leaves, in which case he's lock starter. Ligue 1's finances are in a parlous state and the other GKs are
    • Remy Descamps, who's 28 and has made all of 8 Ligue 1 appearances over 4 seasons and conceded 14 goals in those 8 games, and
    • Lassine Diarra, a 22 year-old who has yet to make a senior appearance in any competition.
Even Marseille or Monaco don't pay $8m plus $2.7m a year in salary for a GK to sit him. He'll start

What you say makes sense. However, Perri is still there. I'll be happier if/when he is gone.

While everything has been agreed in principle, nothing has been signed and is unlikely to be until Perri leaves.

Once he does, Matt joins Lyon. Otherwise, he returns to Forest to wait for developments/alternatives.

Interestingly, Perri also spent a year on loan at Crystal Palace (2019), but he didn’t play.
