Former MLS guy Matt Taylor is on trial at Koblenz, he played in their last friendly. http://www.general-anzeiger-bonn.de/index.php?k=fuss&itemid=10068&detailid=480622
Yessir. I'm surprised he's not at Bayern............. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matt_Taylor_(American_soccer_player)
Connections will only take you so far. Matt does have Josh Wolff type wheels, albeit without Josh Wolff's scoring touch.
FWIW, Thiago Martins (in a headband, pictured there next to Matt) has carved himself a very nice career in Norway.
Matt "Mr. wasted 4th overall pick by the Wizards" Taylor? That Matt Taylor? Which country is that anyway?
According to Kicker he has signed through June 30, 2009 http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/2bundesliga/startseite/artikel/219094/ This how coach Rappolder described what they were looking for (because of tight finances). "Wir müssen jemanden finden, der im Moment unterbewertet ist, aber das Potenzial für die Liga hat", hatte der Coach die Vorgabe umrissen. "We have to find somebody who is undervalued but has potential for the league." Seems like more and more teams in Europe are figuring this out about US (-based) players...
I actually thought Matt began to play fairly well for Preki last season ... but, apparently, I was the only one.
I actually, I think Koblenz are pretty desperate. From an article about the time of Yelldell's transfer in earlier this summer, it sounded like they are trying to load up on free transfers and hope to unearth some diamonds in the rough. Could be a rough season with those sorts of finances.
In the pre-game press conference Rappolder had more to say about Taylor. http://www.tuskoblenz.de/index2.php?&nav=.0.0&_assoc_id=2627&_assoc_table=news "Er passt ins Anforderungsprofil, ist willig, laufstark, gut im Kombinationsspiel und taktisch intelligent. Für unsere Möglichkeiten fast eine optimale Lösung, die unsere Möglichkeiten in der Offensive erweitert." "He fills our needs. He is motivated, has good wheels, is good in combination play and is tactically intelligent. For our (financial) possibilities he is a optimal solution for expanding our options on offense." The article also hints that he could see some time on Sunday in the opener.
which is why I started a game-day thread And it was a cracker of a goal. Upper 90 with is left foot from the top of the box.
He's a good enough player, if he can only put the ball in the corner. He'd get/create numerous good chances at Chivas, only to launch it into the 40th row for the umpteeth time. Hopefully, he's found the key.
Matt Taylor is not a bad player. I don't see a huge gap between Matt and Josh Wolff, and Wolff started some games in BL2 although couldn't hold a starting spot. Does this mean average to above average MLS players are about the level of BL2 rosters?
