matt is on a one-month trial with Maritimo in the Portuguese league. http://www.soccerage.com/en/13/j7386.html
Just slightly. Although, to be fair, Jordan was on USA's U-20 team many moons ago. Have the Burn indicated how likely they feel Jordan will return? And if it looks like Matt will play in Europe, will Dallas want to trade for a proven GK to backup Countess prior to the draft? Although Countess certainly has the pedigree to do well in MLS, he's only played one match in the league and has yet to prove himself. Should Jordan stay in Europe, I think the Burn need to pick up a quality backup GK just in case Countess falters or is reinjured. Using a run-of-the-mill GK from the A-League to backup Countess is too risky, IMO, and could potentially prove costly to the Burn's title hopes this year.
I agree. I'm all for giving DJ a shot. But we need someone with MLS experience to back him up just in case. And don't discount what said goalkeeper could also provide DJ in terms of teaching. Whatever the team does, please get someone who can pass it back to his teammates!!
Other sources I've read say he has a 15 day trial. Apparently, the coach likes what he sees so far. He commented on his athleticism and agility. He arrived there on a recommendation from a former Maritimo player named Alex Burnbury. I don't know the connection between he and Matt.
Actually Jeff Cassar and Scott Vallow are both available for the Burn without needing to make a trade. Both are quality backups. Jordan's situation is this: The Burn are waiting to see if he gets an Euro offer, if he doesnt I think they will make an offer, but it might not be one that Matty wants. peet
Aren't Vallow and Cassar under contract with the Rochester Raging Rhinos and Atlanta Silverbacks respectively?
Does Vallow qualify to be a backup and mentor for Countess, who has 'minimal-at-best' experience in Pro play?
Bunbury was the target forward for KC about four years ago. Canadian international at one time. Might've gotten to know Jordan during his time in the states.
My understanding is that MLS clubs no longer have official affiliates in the A-League. So a player like Jeff Cassar might come at a higher price than the Burn would be willing to pay.
My understanding is there would be no Allocation as his contract has run out. I also think Cassar had a one year deal with Atlanta, although I am not positive about that.
Unfortunately for the Burn, this is not the best year to be shopping for keepers, with New England looking for a backup and San Jose possibly looking for a starter. And to think, around this time last year both Adin Brown and Nick Rimando were available for nothing. Still, the Burn should be at least in ok shape if they have to start the season with Countess/Cassar or Countess/Vallow.
Joe Cannon I could be totally off here, but I think he's out of contract. Thinking about Europe. As is Wade Barret. Why any team would look at Matt Jordan and not Joe Cannon baffles me, though. Does Jordan have an EU eligibility or something?
Ok this is really makes sense. crapids lose fro chump who goes back to a columbia team and they get an allecation. We possibly lose Jordan and we don't? Something is wrong with that picture.
like anyone understands Allocation rules. But Valdarrama was still under contract and Col didn't want him. Valdaramma must have asked out of his deal or something. SJ is not getting one for Graziani either and he is under contract so they have much more reason to complain. Jordan is out of contract. Totally different.
Matt may have found a new home... The American goalkeeper, Matt Jordan, will meet with club President Carlos Pereira to discuss terms for a contract. The trialist has impressed the coaching staff, and in particular, Nelo Vingada over the past week. The 28 year old goalkeeper is a United States international, and played for Dallas Burn last season in the MLS.
As much as I hate seeing the Burn fixtures that I love go by the wayside -- Zarco, Farrer, a real stadium in a great setting -- I think this is good for Jordan. He's clearly been stagnating for a year or two at Dallas and needs a new challenge. Also, Countess won't wait forever and needs to step and see if he has what it takes to play in the MLS (which would seem like a prerequisite to being the heir apparent, along with Brown, to a US keeper jersey). Hope it works out well for him and thanks so much for all the great stuff he's given the team. This could even be the "Millwall" jump start for an International career for the guy.
