Watched his minutes - replay available on Paramount+. Had some nice passes on counterattacks, though each could have been better - clearly a little rust and lack of familiarity. Looked up to the speed and physicality. Severely challenged by being down a man, and not a part of either conceded goal. Their #10 got a red and will miss next match, increasing the chances he'll see time again next time out.

Hasn't been seen a lot lately, but he's on the bench tonight:

Matko played all 90 minutes and was the highest-rated player on the team in a 1-0 loss to Racing Club last night. Perhaps something to build on.

Miljevic played the whole match, which went to PKs after 90 minutes. He took the fifth kick and missed as they lost the shootout 3-2 after a scoreless match. Got the top ratings on the team with four shots and four chances created, but none turned into a goal.

Subbed off in the 90th minute. Watched some of it - not a standout for good or ill. A few long shots. Has to be a little disappointed that in nearly two full matches with Matko in a playmaking role in the last five days, the team didn't score at all - two 0-0 draws. Still, a road draw with River Plate is a pretty good result for them.

Going home to face Argentinos Juniors, where he began his career and saw his time there end in spectacular failure. He was banned from their training grounds the last 15 months there and his father & agent were both declared "persona non grata" at Argentinos Juniors.

Now Matko returns and is starting for Newell's Old Boys

What a wild, wild career this dude has had

Hoping that's not him in the picture above - doubt he aged that quickly.

73 minutes tonight in an errant-shot-filled scoreless draw with Atletico Tucuman.

Matko gets the start at left wing against Boca Juniors. Paramount+ has the match.

Based on this report, he's out at Newells (who apparently declined his option) and is still struggling with serious behavior issues.

    https://www.footboom1.com/en/news/f...ewell-s-didn-t-sign-matko-miljevic-tyc-sports

"The explanation given to the player's entourage regarding the reason for not acquiring his transfer was linked to various acts of indiscipline exhibited by the footballer recently. Against Boca, he was substituted after just 10 minutes into the second half and became angry. Miljevic attempted to leave for the dressing room, but some teammates stopped him, forcing him to remain seated on the bench while he shouted insults into the air. During the week, he apologized to his teammates and coaching staff. However, what happened against Talleres was the final straw.

In Córdoba, the former Argentinos player was substituted again, this time at halftime, and he did not take it lightly. While Mariano Soso was giving the talk before returning to the field, Matko was out of control: banging on the walls and shouting insults directed at his teammates and the team. The commotion became so disruptive that the coach had to ask his players to focus on the talk and not be distracted by what was happening around them. Shortly after, Miljevic grabbed his bag and left the Mario Alberto Kempes stadium."

This guy.... sounds like there are some major issues - anger issues at that - with him. Third time's a charm... huh? And to think Poch was reportedly in Argentina a few weeks ago and saw him play. We don't need a cancer like that. I hope MIljevic takes a deep look into the mirror. I hope he also has the right people around him to let him know he's pissing away a career.

A big question is how he finds another club after this.

That could be very tough for him. His rap sheet is long and he’s still in the middle of his problems

Not sure how real they are but looks like there’s some Twitterverse rumors that he’s signing with Corinthians, unclear how he keeps getting looks at decently high levels given all the issues.

The fact is, he's obviously exceptionally talented - a Top 5 player in waiting - and always available on a free. A club that can get him under control is looking at a several million $$$ return on a $2-500k a year salary, more likely to be closer to $200k than $500k, maybe a trophy or two on top.

Every club thinks they'll be the one and it works for while, until it doesn't so he's probably got one or two more trips to the well left, before he winds up in the equivalent of a League One bottom feeder rather than a Ligue Un contender.

    It's a real pity
