The MetroStars returned home Tuesday to their training grounds at Giants Stadium. While a light snow fell outside, the players turned up the heat inside with a disciplined and intense practice. With the exclusion of Di Giamarino, the entire team was present giving the coaching staff a good opportunity to work on team dynamics.

Clint Mathis was back in action, participating in the entire practice. Between the fancy footwork displayed during the possession drills and his comments heard across the field, the team and staff knew he was ready to be back on the pitch.

Clint Mathis was on the field at MetroStars practice Tuesday, more than a month after hernia surgery. He ran at close to full speed, delivered passes and worked combinations with teammates he'd spent barely a week with before being hurt. Mathis isn't all the way back, but he's close.

"It's been a while since I played, but it feels good," said Mathis, who had been sidelined since having surgery on Feb. 25. "It's a little sore but it'll be fine. We've got a couple of weeks until the (April 12) opener and I should be ready, but it's nothing I'm going to rush into. We have a whole year to worry about, not just one game."
