    Mathis 3rd Goal...

The just stated that the Metros have NEVER lost a game when Clint Mathis is on the scorers list. Pretty remarkable stat! Unfortunately i'm a Crew man, but I support all of our USA Teamers.

Clint didn't score against the Village People...Mike Magee did

It still counts and makes him the youngest player ever to score for the Metro.

You know, come to think of it, the Metros have never lost when Magee scored either. Just get these 2 to score and we'll never loose.

Tis amazing what happens to a players performance when he is in the last year of his contract.

his point was that the kids name is "Magee" not "McGee."

I'd imagine that your chances of winning are a lot better when you score than when you don't score.

Mathis scores = Metros score at least one goal

    How's that for unassailable logic?

    Re: Re: Mathis (R)

the problem is when you can't spell a player's name correctly you lose credibility.

If you wrote a post talking about "Ronalda" or "Rude Hullit" I wouldn't respect your opinion because you don't seem to know what you're talking about. The same thing is happening with Magee (to a lesser extent because he hasn't been around long).

Being an Irish American, until I saw the back of his jersey I thought it was McGee too...honest mistake.

I believe the original poster was just trying to correct a mistake that was obviously made on Ellis Island a century ago. It should be McGee or McGhee.

As for Frieslander, get off your high horse. I doubt anyone cares whether you think they're credible.

And about the Clint stat, 20-0-2 when he scores, if its such a unimportant stat where are the similar numbers for other goal scorers? Can't someone do the math and figure out the Galaxy's record when Ruiz scores, or the Revs record when Twellman scores? How about Kreis, or Cobi or Ante Razov. They'll all obviously be good records, I doubt any of them will have an unbeaten record.

    Re: Mathis 3rd Goal...

    That's why he is there.

As infuriating as Mathis is, personality and game-wise, he is simply the best pure opportunistic goal scorer this country has yet produced.

Donovan's overall game is more complete, McBride is a classic big forward with a big work rate, and even Cobi knows how to be a pest, but Mathis is the one Yank you want on the pitch when a goal must be had. Now, if he would just work at being a good footballer, as well.

    He scores routinely..

    He assists regularly...

    He's captained his national side...

Too bad he's not a "good footballer"

That's like saying 'whenever Timmy has a shutout, Metro wins.'

    What fun is that?

Actually, when Clint scores we don't lose, but the record shows there are two ties in the mix.

    Re: Re: Mathis 3rd Goal...

I disagree with this. Clint is more than just a good finisher. Donovan is the better athlete, but IMO Mathis is a better playmaker than Donovan who occasionally comes up with an amazing pass or play, but with less frequency than Mathis. The big problem with Mathis is that he doesn't play the uptempo style of our National team coach so a bunch of people think he's lazy. As Wynalda said Saturday - you say lazy forward, I say economical. BTW - what exactly do you mean when you say he needs to work at being a good footballer? Run around more?

actually, Metro were 0-2 when Sasa Curcic scored. Not that I think it's a vital statistic or anything but the Crew aren't even undefeated this season when McBride scores, no less over the course of a few seasons.
