Stolen from the MLSN&A thread for today. Go to http://www.northjersey.com and click on Sports / soccer / Metrostars. Could be out 4-6 weeks.
obviously a conspiracy to conceal his continuing lack of fitness. sorry, i hope my sarcastic post didn't beat those of you who were going to seriously suggest this.
www.metrostars.com says Clint needs surgery & will be out four weeks. It's not his fault (this sort of stuff happens), but I'm getting that ol' Tab Ramos feeling here. Hopefully, he's better at bouncing back.
What this article did not say that other articles on the subject said was that the injury MAY be a sports hernia, and if so, surgery may be required. If surgery is required, he'd be out 4-6 weeks.
Maybe I read it wrong, but it seems the other articles were written first & it is now known to be a sports hernia requiring surgery.
You read it right. Clint's going under the knife and will be out about 4 weeks. Let's hope Gio is motivated to play high-level soccer at low wages since Magee is likely going to miss the first couple months of the season while on duty with the U-20s.
Is this a certainty? Is there a chance Bradley would decide he wants Magee for the beginning of the season?
Say all the jokes you want about his fitness. Cleetus played a 2 full 90 minutes games through the injury. Now's the best time for him or any other secure Metro player (oxymoron?) to be injured. http://www.ussoccerplayers.com/latest_soccer_news/343267.html
"Mathis was in Milwaukee, where he was examined by Dr. RICHARD CATTEY, a sports hernia specialist recommended by Bradley." Thank God for Bob Bradley's innate distrust for the Metros doctors. http://www.nytimes.com/2003/02/24/sports/soccer/25SOCC.html
Clint has never let the team doctor go anywhere near him regarding surgeries. He has always seen a specialist or the nats dr.
SECAUCUS, New Jersey -- Clint Mathis, the MetroStars and United States national team midfielder-forward, will undergo surgery Tuesday to repair an injured right hernia, the MLS club announced Monday. Meanwhile, midfielder Lisi is suffering from a stress fracture in his right ankle on his lateral side. The former DC United player will be recovering for two to four weeks. The injury occurred during the off-season and it has been nagging him in the early part of preseason, resulting in the evaluation.
This operation will impact his ability to regain his fitness, so even though he should be ready to play by the start of the season, I'm concerned he won't be able to go the full 90. He'll probably have to come off the bench for the first couple of games. I wonder who they'll start in his absence.
I have had this surgery, so I speak from experiance! The first 3 or 4 days it hurts like all hell! After that however, it is possible to get up and move around, some people even go back to work at this time (desk jobs). Clint should have no problem starting the aerobic exercises that the article mentioned, and should be ready to go by April!
SECAUCUS, N.J. -- MetroStars forward Clint Mathis had successful hernia surgery on Tuesday. Mathis, who has been captain of the U.S. soccer team in recent games, is expected to be sidelined for about one month.
We all know how Mathis REALLY obtained this injury - yankin' the pud a little too hard. Anyways, get ready for more of these types of "nagging" injuries for Clint. If you don't maintain your form, then obviously you will pick up little knocks and injuries more frequently than other players. Mathis has been openly saying that he doesn't keep match fit. Believe me, the last thing I want is for Metros to lose Clint for a long stretch, but the reality is that we may see this type of injury or a similar one occur again before the season is completed.
