This is very third hand (I have zero personal knowledge), but I've heard of coaches really liking his creativity and 1v1 skills. Since creativity is a fairly rare commodity that can't really be taught - could help explain Dortmund's interest.

Yesterday at the end of the BVB U17 match there was a player I didn't know. Could it be that this boy was Mathis Albert? The truth is that it looks quite similar 🤔👀 pic.twitter.com/KGMRk487HW— Daxo (@daxooo_) May 2, 2024 Nope, he’s registered or in the process of being registered I believe. Dad moved there for work as I indicated about a month ago just like Mize. https://t.co/ziSv3zZa1V— Marcus Chairez | US/SC (@USSoccerColl) May 2, 2024
Good luck to him, moving to Germany at 14 is a massive undertaking. The upside is he'll have a pretty good idea of how the club feels about him by the time he is 17/18 so he'll still have prime developmental years ahead of him if it doesn't work out.
Made his debut for BVB U17 against Hannover on August 10th. According to the match report, he made a strong impression.

Looks like a top quality athlete in those clips. Seems to have really good acceleration, especially when looking for a return pass.
Scored on his return from injury: After missing nearly a month due to injury Mathis Albert ('09) came back this morning firing. In Dortmund U17s 5-0 win over the Preußen Münster U17s, Albert would go on to score FIVE minutes into his return to action and would record an assist as well in 45 minutes of play.… https://t.co/CPp7sIr6AA pic.twitter.com/UhgX1t0nxv— USMNT Report 🇺🇸🇹🇷 (@USMNTReport) October 13, 2024

Are those direct assists or secondary assists? Transfermarkt does not list him having an assist this season.
Only MLS does the secondary assists as far as I know. This kid is on the Pulisic trajectory or close to it.
Counterpoint: "15 year old kid already playing and scoring with Dortmund U-19's" That's all I need to know. I've got my seat on the bus.
Enjoying this age of YA where a new American wonderkid is popping up at BVB every couple of years... Pulisic... then reyna... campbell... now Albert Subscribe
