How about we keep ONE thread for all friendlies and euro2008 games and related euro2008 team news. it might look like jumble but instead of making separate threads for each game it might be fun to have everything laid out in one I saw on the italian forum they had one like that made last july for the 1 year world cup thing and it looked cool with all of them in one.
The squad of 23 will be announced on 15th or 16th May. Replacement players may be added to the squad after the training camp starting on 19th May.
I am just getting into international soccer, and living in North America is obviously not ideal, but does anyone know any sort of way I will be able to watch the German Euro games? Thanks
I know that www.myp2p.eu streams live video of the African Cup of Nations. They should definitely have Euros if they have ACN. Such a great website, I recently discovered it and feel stupid for not knowing of this earlier. Oh well, it's a good resource for Bundesliga and a lot of Euro club soccer as well.
Every player will be rewarded with € 250,000 in the case of winning the title. If they don't manage to pass the group, they will get nothing. CLICK 1 CLICK 2
I agree it's not enviable to be setting new records there. At least according to the articles a high six figure amount will be donated by the players to a social project associated with the women's WC 2011. What can you expect though...apparently much of today was spent to produce a commercial with the whole team rather than do something football-related.
how about just a clean dfb kit to keep after the match and the opponent's jersey? oh and that trophy but anyway, as long as it wasn't the players who requested the money, it's ok i suppose
I wouldn't even have a problem if the players asked for the money. Why shouldn't they get paid? If DFB is benefitting massively from the team's success, surely the players who played a major part in that success should be compensated. This isn't 1920's. These are professionals and it's only fair that they be compensated for their work.
Do they already have enough money to live comfortably? Yes. So asking for anything more is greedy. If they get forced the money on them by the dfb that's another thing.
Just call the massive inflation in prize money since 2004 and the equally massive inflation in what the coach is paid the Klinsmann factor...
No, it's exactly like that, Klinsmann was always after honour and achievement but equally had a keen eye for what's in it financially. Unfortunately, you can't have honour and money in equal measure, the latter erodes the intangible rewards.
It depends what he wanted the money for. I always got the impression during his career that he valued other things higher over football, and he looked out for his family too. This does not mean that he went around chasing the highest offer. It just means he made sure that he had enough to live comfortably, which I alluded to as being ok in the earlier reply to boss84. What is not ok is wanting more money than that.
I don't think Klinsmann ever made a move or took a post for financial reasons, but he always had a keen eye for how much money he can ask for without the other party breaking off negotiations and pressed for exactly that much. Neither need-based nor merit-based (consider his huge salaries as a first-time NT and club coach...), I guess "need" is very vague in these spheres anyway.
As long as "need" = to live comfortably by a normal person's standards without excess, I'm fine with that.
By my definitions Klinsmann was/is greedy, not needy, but I don't really mind, it's part of his general (valuable) "drivenness".
so you reckon klinsmann went for more money than he needed to live a normal person's comfortable life? you know, just to show status, power, or to afford luxuries
