Sacramento Republic FC (7 pts., 2-0-1 overall, 1-0-1 away) at Portland Timbers 2 (0 pts., 0-3-0 overall, 0-2-0 at home) Sunday 2:00 p.m. kick-off at Merlo Field Television: None Radio: None Online: www.SacRepublicFC.com/Matchday Last five: Sacramento W-W-D Portland L-L-L Portland has lost @ Swope Park, and home to Vancouver and Rio Grande Valley. Goal differential is -5. Is this a trap game after being bathed in the warm glow of the Soccer Don? Or, is this the game we free Mackenzie Pridham?
According to the Bee, Buckle left Tuesday to join his wife for the birth of their son. Adam Smith to coach the team vs. PT2 this weekend.
Article also says that Sherrod is back in San Jose this week and, according to Smith, "could have an impact if he returns to the team on loan." He also expects good things from former Cal Poly star Mackenzie Pridham and 20-year-old English transplant Harry Williams once they get their chances. Both were sidelined by late-preseason injuries and have yet to see USL playing time. “Harry is just now back training, and Mackenzie hasn’t had a chance yet, but he knows the back of the net,”

Couldn't pass up the chance to beat the Timbers! Playing in Portland w/ @SacRepublicFC today! #BeatPortland pic.twitter.com/kVM6BvFHwE— Adam Jahn (@AdamJahn14) April 17, 2016
He's had a lot of plays like that, trying to be cute, nearly disastrous plays, like at the beginning of this match passing back to Jakubek. He's slow and clumsy and makes really bad decisions in the back. We went to the trouble of bringing Da Fonte here, but I have the feeling Foran isn't starting because he's better, but rather because Da Fonte is a diva. That's my suspicion.
Ehhhhhh... I don't know if that was a red, the ball was there and it was a 50/50 chance to get it. Jahn held back when the keeper got it first. I can see why the ref called it from where he was, but come on. Oh well. Please do something Republic!
They did...they got shut out. Again. Two goals from four matches, only one in the run of play. I get that Buckle is a D first kind of coach, but this is just pathetic to watch. Why in Bog's name is Guzman sitting on the bench until >80'?!? Feh.
Bad no-call on Foran, but he held on to the ball waaaay too long. I'm conflicted on the Jahn red. Dangerous play, jumping into the ball with the keeper doing the same. Tie goes to keeper- with a red for your troubles Offensive problems persist. I don't like relying on loanies from Quakes to get the ball on frame. Frustrating.
We need to start scoring. Scoring was not a problem under Preki. I don't know if it's a lack of the roster, who's being chosen to start, or the way this team is coached. But something needs to change. Fast. I don't like our midfield. I love Stewart but it's time for him to sit. He's not doing it up there. We need something, anything different. Iwasa is not the great player I hear so many people talking about. Jahn and Sherrod are loanees not to be relied on. Start Pridham or even Guzman or someone. We need more attacking from the wings and the middle, not just crosses into the box. Buckle needs to figure this ou or else he will be gone before the season is over - and it had better be before our playoff chances are over too.
Well, there was that Tommy Thompson bike cleared off the line. But that's about the only scoring chance I remember.

Just watched the Jahn red again. Can't go studs-up into a 50-50 ball with the keeper. That'll get you booted every time.
..and the Jahn red card. There was that Iwasa shot that was saved, and I'm pretty sure TT had a few other chances. He was visibly frustrated, the kid just can't find the back of the net!
Frustrating game......Jahn knows better than to make that challenge. Yeah, he pulled his legs back at the last second, but relying on a referee to make the right call from 30 yards behind the play is not smart. I would think that Foran knows better as well, but this isnt the first time we have seen him do something similar. Keeping perspective, we are 2-1-1, certainly not a bad record. One concern is that we are one month into the season and we have ONE goal from the run of play. Compounding that is that we have seen the lack of finishing as a problem for much of the second half of last season. I commend staff for tightening the defense, but if you cannot score, the best you can hope for is 30 points at the end of the year. I am willing to wait a few (2-3) more games to see improvement in the offensive third and finishing. If it does not change, either player or coaching staff changes need to be made.
