One of these teams is still in playoff contention. The other is Canadian. Crew are squarely in the Win + get a lot of help phase, but as a great man once said, it aint over til its over. Can Coachbot9000 lead his ragtag bunch of scrubs to the playoffs, or will the pressure be too great? Will the Zardes hype train continue to chug full speed ahead? Will connor maloney be a good defender? Find out the answers to these questions and more, on this weeks episode of the Coachbot9000 Crew Soccer Show!!! Vancouver is tough to break down, but if we get a goal early, things could open up. Any word on the ongoing injuries of Franis, Josh Williams, and Jimenez? Other than benching Guzman for Trapp, I think everything else stays the same barring a return to fitness.
I'd like to bench Guzman for Argudo and move Artur to a defensive position. I think Argudo has more to contribute offensively and should combine well with the other 4 ahead of him.
For me, while I like Argudo's energy and tidiness on the ball and could see him as an 8 (though he is pretty small), I do not think I go there in a do or die game. USOC or after we're eliminated, sure. Not now.
I am not a member of the Argudo fan club. I prefer to see him play over Guzman but they don’t play the same positions. So really I prefer Guzman play for another team and Argudo can keep the bench warm.
I think he is a starter in terms of talent, but since he is already traded to Nashville, so Mohktar starts & Argudo is first off the bench.
I'd not be shocked if Nashville has "asked nicely" that he not be used extensively (perhaps in return for "future considerations"). That said, I agree with you. We'd best be getting on with planning for next season.
I think we win this game by two, and maybe more. I'm sure this has been discussed in the "How many points for a playoff berth thread" but I think the team has a real good idea of just how realistic a playoff berth is by kickoff here. New England is home to RSL. RSL is a much better team than NE in my opinion but NE is at home. If NE gets anything less than 3 a playoff berth is suddenly much more possible. NE away to Portland and and Atlanta with a home match vs NYC in the middle. I see a max of 3 points there for NE. So, if NE drops the match vs RSL before kickoff the Crew has even more to play for against a Vancouver team that isn't very good and has nothing to play for. I'll go Crew 3-1 two from Santos and 1 from Zardes. The final Crew goal comes after minute 85 after the Crew makes us sweat a bit with typical brain lapses and sloppy play that has typified this season. But, instead we head into our final home game with the narrative of hope and momentum try to avenge one of the worst performances in recent Crew memory against Philly from earlier this season.
If they did, I'd tell them to pound sand. He's on the Crew roster, we gave good value to Philadelphia for him (GAM and an Int slot, IIRC), he's getting paid to play for the Crew and if Nashville wanted him treated like a delicate flower who's only here for decoration, they shouldn't have loaned him out.
I'd agree--unless we were getting "future considerations" from them (as I noted as a possibility)--which might include them not taking a player from us in the expansion draft. That might be worth it, with only 4 games left. Of course, this is all speculation on my part.
Accam got plenty of chances, his half-hearted defensive efforts got him to the bench. The closer we get to the end of the season the less chance he's going to get exactly because of his loan situation. If he was lighting it up midseason, he'd still be out there starting now. But at this exact moment, playing the guys who will be here next year, even if a dip in talent, is more important. I agree with Porter on this one. We've been rewarded with Diaz's play.
I'd add that a player who will be on his fourth MLS team next year at age 28 has some holes. I'm not calling him Kei Kamara Jr. but still
For sure. The guy brings absolutely elite level speed. For me, I've seen him be slow to react so his speed advantage is mitigated. I've seen him dial it back whether he's protecting his hamstrings or just not motivated to lay it on the line for this team, I can't say. With no one willing to hit an attacking half of the field switch, with Accam in space and 1v1 with a fullback, he just doesn't have much else to offer. At least he hasn't shown that he has anything else. In the immortal words of Queen Ariana, "Thank you, next!"
Not that I am disagreeing with anyone's take on Accam, but I will just note he has 4 goals this year for us (2 MLS, 2 USOC), which IS third on the team. In my book, he is a forward, not a mid. Work rate too low. Late game speed role is perfect for him.
The poll seems to close today. Also the results aren't visible, at least to me. Hardhead, can you see who voted for which option in order to track Grouchys?
shame on me! next time you see me running down high street please boo me/throw rotten vegetables/dropkick me.
That is what we need. A NE draw wouldn't be awful. MTL, Chicago, & Orlando dropping points would be gravy.
