Looking forward to a Marta-less Brazil. She has a ton of talent, but I always thought that they play better as a team without her.
How many WWCs is this for Formiga? R E C O R D // B R E A K E R Formiga is about to play in her SEVENTH #FIFAWWC for Brazil! 150 players at France 2019 were not even born when she made her tournament debut in 1995. #BRA #BRAJAM pic.twitter.com/MSHYFS7CSf— FIFA Women's World Cup (@FIFAWWC) June 9, 2019
02' 0-0 Brasil right ck, backpass to box top right. Jamaica poke ball away, longball past center circle for Shaw threatening a 1-v-0 breakaway! Bárbara reads that from 50m away, comes all the way up to circle back and volleys upfield! They've done their homework, they know about Bunny -- 04' 0-0 Brasil sustain endless pressure in Jamaica's box. Jamaica are surely playing to defend and counter in their 1st-ever WWC.
How does a referee allow a player to wear pre-wrap loosely around the neck when it seems too loose for a medical purpose.
08' 0-0 Bond-Flasza(?) plays Matthews down wide right in a 30m sprint duel with Tamires caught high and inside. Matthews 1st cross blocked to just inside box right, she regains and lifts a very high cross to 4m 2/5 right. Shaw lurks and measures a header, Bárbara catches high just above her head. 08' 0-0 Off that punt, Debinha runs onto a through-ball alone through arc top, Schneider meets her at 15m and pokes ball away rightward just enough to disrupt any shot. Debinha chases back to arc right, turn-and-shoot goes to 6-top right, Schneider falls on it. 12' 0-0 Brasil have tried numerous through-balls for central runs. So far, Jamaica have intercepted or defended them all, and look pretty composed in back.
14' 0-0 Shaw settles at 12m box left, touches back to 14m mid-left, shoots right instep to left post low, Bárbara collects. Jamaica's "poor" touch is surely a result of years of non-support, which gives them essentially zero time together as a team. 15' 1-0 Brasil left throw-in at box top, back to Andressa unmarked at 18m wide left. Andressa touches once to box top wide left, left instep cross to 10m center. Cristiane is 1-v-1 on Blackwood at 9m, cleverly boxes her out and steps away to open space. Jump twist header drops over Schneider's dive, into right side netting low. 1137718205890215936 is not a valid tweet id
25' 1-0 Jamaica cross high to 13m center, Bárbara comes out again and catches high over Shaw(?)'s head. 25' 1-0 And off that gk, Debinha again leads a 2-v-2 through arc left to 8m 6-left, right instep shot kick-saved away by Schneider. Jamaica are getting toasted on those quick punts. 1137723056258977792 is not a valid tweet id
27' 1-0 Andressa(?) lifts a cross from 10m mid-right toward left post. Beatriz slides through 5m left post, Schneider dives in front of her and palms ball off her leg, right back to self, catches it and hangs on. 30' 1-0 Shaw shoots from ~arc top right to right 90, Bárbara pushes it wide right. 31' 1-0 Tamires(?) pass up box left springs Debinha(?) past Bond-Flasza caught high, alone through box top left to 10m. Brasil have an embarrassment of unmarked attackers (three) around spot, ground cross behind them is perfectly on-line to pick out Thaisa(?) trailing. But Cristiane turns around and taps backward, ball deflects off Thaisa, defender slide-pokes away and Jamaica clear into near touch. Too many chefs
36' 1-0 Carter crosses from 4m wide left to 6-top 5-left. Bárbara dives and catches but doesn't hang on, ball skips out to 7m. Shaw hops over Bárbara, shoots one-touch left roundhouse into a torso, ball deflects down to 1m 4-left and Bárbara dives on it. 1137723350455734272 is not a valid tweet id 37' 1-0 Brasil pass into box mid-right, ball bounces up off an elbow? Penalty ... 38' 1-0 Andressa Alves pk, left instep to left post low, Schneider dives and blocks with right hand low, ball bounces away and topspins right back to her. 1137728068808794114 is not a valid tweet id Schneider putting the team on her back #BRAJAM pic.twitter.com/zkWnD9imSH— Court (@benditlikebemb) June 9, 2019 Concentration, sang froid, exploit... #FIFAWWC #BRAJAM pic.twitter.com/Nv5Yb4XF6d— ArnoLag (@Arnolag38) June 9, 2019
Heck of a performance by Schneider in goal for Jamaica. She sure as hell made the right read on that PK. Of.course, it was a pretty lame call IMHO.
Missed part of first half because I was getting myself updated about the Italy's win. Gosh, today games are one after the other with no pause! I start watching in time to see the PK saved by Jamaican GK (given her looks and her name, Schneider, she looks anything but Jamaican! ): in fact a PK for a random elbow sounds really poor, I am glad the match wasn't closed this way: if Brazil wants to seal the game, they will have to do better than that.
HT 1-0. Brasil 9(4)-(3)8 shots(sog), 6-1 corners, 1-3 offsides, 56% possession. Brasil have left about four good chances at the train station. Jamaica are doing quite well for a debutante.
@mattypark, where are you getting those highlights (would like possibly use the gifs for the goals thread)
Schneider is most impressive, now i see how they made it as far as they did with a team with a very interesting story of what it took to get here, i suggest reading into it for those who are curious...and for those that are wondering, her Grandparents are Jamaican, as well as her mother...she was raised in US but since family was born there she still qualifies to play on team/Jamaican citizenship. She plays for the university not far from where i currently live...may have to give an in person congratulations if i'm in the area and run into her.
