I am currently on my train to Paris, where I am going to follow Argentina-Japan tomorrow. Unluckily, the train should arrive in Paris just about at the time of the start of Australia-Italy, so I'll be probably too much busy to follow the beginning of the match. I'll catch up later but, meanwhile, I can always open this thread, so I'll have a place to retrieve all of the information about the game when I'll connect again!
Wow, early start this Sunday. I'm up anyways for FIVB VNL (m) Portugal-USA, at exactly the same time I shall crosspost This is actually match #05, by FIFA's sequential numbering of all matches (which appears on the single-sheet whole-tourney PDF schedule, and almost nowhere else ), so "C05" in my notation.
here's Italy's starting lineup, keep an eye on Bonansea(possibly top ten material( interesting though according to the chart she's an AM instead of her fav, left side winger spot
09' 0-0 Bonansea bends her run just past midfield mid-left, held onside by Polkinghorne at circle left. Long throughball from own 30m pierces Australia's high line, Bonansea leads 1 through box top center to 13m. Ld.Williams comes out and gets a touch, ball trickles past her and rollllllls slowly across goalline center. AR flags offside Long delay for VAR review ... offside confirmed?! Maybe R1 deemed that Bonansea leaned her head past Polkinghorne's back foot? (Or just doesn't want to overrule her AR this early?)
So... If Italy was offside two yards into the half, why is Australia taking the kick at their own penalty spot?
So announcer states that to date, 50%=of the goals have come via set pieces. Of course, a pair of Spanish PKs boosts that total.
Female announcer claims that Kerr earned that PK, "drawing the foul". I dunno. I don't think she went down very easily.
I type them in not-quite real-time! There's some lag while I look up jersey numbers and watch the replays repeatedly 21' 0-0 Kerr fouled around 9m center. Penalty, yellow card on Gama. 22' 1-0 Kerr pk, right instep to left post low, Giuliani dives and saves but doesn't hang on. Ball squirts out to 4m center, Kerr follows and taps in with Giuliani still down.
I love women's soccer. I don't necessarily love the mandatory female announcers. "Italy haven't released Buonasea yet." Umm... She scored. On a beautiful release. Of.course it was rules offside, but Italy has found her at least once.
Italy wouldn't be able to keep up with Australia's pace in the 2nd half(as their eventually going to unleash Devanna). got to wonder if Italy's going to sub the yellow carded Gama?(as Kerr's going to go after her in the 2nd half)
anybody else disappointed with the half empty stadiums? the way others were posting; most games were suppose to be sell outs. But the way of woso seems plenty of on line, ticket buying support, but then they don't want to make the actual trip to the game
Yep. It is disappointing. Part of building the women's game is building fans who will travel. But I don't travel either. So I may be part of the problem.
56' 1-1 Australia innocuous square pass to own box top right, but Polkinghorne(??) clangs ball 5m ahead of self, gets into a 40-60 race. Bonansea wins race head-on, pokes ball past and follows through box top left to 10m, cuts inside to 9m left post, slides down onto back and shoots right foot across mouth. Ball goes perfectly through van Egmond's legs, past Ld.Williams' dive, into right bottom pipe. 58' 1-1 Italy subs in (2 of 3) #9 Daniela Sabatino for #18 Ilaria Mauro. 61' 1-1 Australia subs in (1 of 3) #11 Lisa De Vanna for #6 Chloe Logarzo.
