Rio Grande Valley FC Toros (7-13-7, 28 pts) haven’t been the most consistent team this year, but that doesn’t mean they haven’t been a dangerous one. Offensively, RGVFC creates plenty of opportunities but the finishing touch seems to be lacking at times. However, when it’s firing on all cylinders, it’s a potent attack. Seven times this season has RGVFC scored three goals or more in a match with four of which occurring on the road. Toros are a very disciplined group—they’ve conceded the least amount of fouls of all teams in the league with 282. The Texan club is also one of only five teams (Sacramento, Pittsburgh, Bethlehem and Orange County) in the USL Championship that have three different goalkeepers who have each registered a clean sheet this season. The last match for Rio Grande Valley was a 1-0 home loss to Tulsa Roughnecks on Saturday. Since RGVFC beat Sacramento in late-July, Toros have won just one game in their last seven matches. A must-win home match against a lesser opponent.
Enough midfield and defensive miscues to have sunk us against a better squad. Elliott needs to get his midfield sorted out pronto. This 4-2-3-1 is looking bad.
Gifted the game-winning goal, and even the first goal was a result of a poor pass by RGV. I expected more from this club this year but at this point I'm just hoping for a first-round win at home. I did think Haris was solid off the bench and that was a nice assist he had, even if the defender did get a slight touch on the end of the pass. Either Bijev's been hobbled by nagging injuries all season or his career has peaked. Either way, too bad.
