With Uruguay's problems in the days leading up to the tournament I wouldn't be surprised if they were completely off their game and Mexico took it to them. It will be interesting to see how they come out. Of course I wouldn't mind if they didn't show up mentally at all since I am a Mexico suppoter. :)

I hope uruguay wins. Actually I know they will. Now we will see how it would be like if Mexico was in conmebol. They wouldn't stand a chance.

Considering the utter disarray of Uruguay right now, I hope that the look upon this tournament as a chance to right the ship. The should be trying to fix whatever is broken and not worry to much about the results.

    It should be interesting though

Mexico looks good! I will be terribly disappointed if they do not win convincingly and w/ style. Speed is key in this match. Uruguay will be tough up front; thus El Bofo needs to be moving and shaking his mark. He will not be afforded the luxury of cherry picking the box. Palencia should fly along w/ Borghetti. If Uruguay is able to cover El Bofo and prevent break aways from Palencia and distribution from Borghetti. Uruguay may stand a chance...Other thank that doubt it..... Mexico 3 Uruguay 0

I completely agree. Good results would be nice, but more important right now is finding out what can work for this team, particularly on defense. I would not be terribly disappointed with a 1-0 loss as it would be the first time in forever that they have held a side to less than 3 goals. I'll either be watching it with a lot of Mexican fans at a bar or at home with my daughter, but hopefully some progress comes from this.

Does anyone got an idea what the starting 11 will be for each team?

As a Palermo fan I am particularly interested in getting a peek at Chavanton. Will he be out there?

Did anyone see the Colombia - Uruguay WC qualifier? Any thoughts?

An early goal from Forlan is what Uruguay will need to hang in this match. Any early goal for the Panchos will set their attack in full motion.

Mexico needs to hold possesion in the middle third and avoid the early Celeste hack fest. Mexico can't forget that they out class this rival and thus don't be so quick to lose their head in a foul filled first half. If LaVolpe has learned anything from playing the U.S., he needs to have his side prepared for another larger, rugged and cleats up tackeling National Team in Uruguay.

I think it will be a goal late in the match that will decide the encounter. Borgetti will be closely marked all night so Bofo needs to show up money. I think he will get the goal after coming close all game.

Spanish is the language of futbol in our neck of the woods so i will leave this for you fellas south of Panama.
?Hace mucho tiempo no?

Every Peruano I've know is a good man, good footballer and fun to drink beers with after a run about. I was rooting for them last night against Bolivia.
With that said, as far as Peru goes y'all would get prison raped if you played the U.S.A.! But that's another thread now isn't it Blanqi.

Chevanton is not on Uruguay's Copa roster.

    According to a Uruguayan website:

    URUGUAY:
    Fabián Carini
    Joe Bizera
    Paolo Montero
    Alejandro Lembo
    Gustavo Varela
    Marcelo Sosa
    Omar Pouso
    Cristian Rodríguez
    Diego Forlán
    Darío Silva
    Carlos Bueno
    D.T.: Jorge Fossati

    MEXICO:
    Oswaldo Sánchez
    Salvador Carmona
    Duilio Davino
    Rafael Márquez
    Ricardo Osorio
    Jaime Lozano
    Gerardo Torrado
    Pavel Pardo
    Jesús Arellano
    Francisco Palencia
    Jared Borgetti
    D.T.: Ricardo Lavolpe.

Chevanton is not on the team because Fossatti is giving players who've played a lot of European club games and national side games this year a rest. I've never heard of Pouso before and have not heard of Varela playing since he sustained a terrible injury early last year, but if it actually works, that'll be a nice change.

That's interesting because when I saw the sides face each other last year in Chicago, it was Mexico that was the rugged side that was hacking and providing the cleats up tackling, while Uruguay was outclassing them in the 2-0 victory, but I could have been mistaken ;)

Perhaps you are right, but now Paolo Montero is back. If Mexico wants to beat Uruguay at hacking and dirty tackling, they will have to deal with the master.

Maybe it was the hacking and dirty tackling that we've been missing the last couple of matches.
