I find this interesting as well. Tim Howard also thought Sanchez was an upgrade…but Kepa is good enough to start for Real Madrid? I never thought GK was as big a priority as some. Yesterday was a mess, but I’m still encouraged by Jackson. On top of other good qualities, he’s a lot tougher/stronger than I might have expected given his lean build. West Ham was reality for us, it’s going to take some time for Poch to put the pieces together (tho I agree it would have been nice not to have to work with quite so many new pieces…Kovacic for one, has looked pretty good in his new role).
I am 90% sure Sanchez is better than Kepa in every facet of the role, especially in the air, grabbing high balls and looking imposing. Have never seen the likely new lad, so no idea, Bergstrom looked alright when he played, but he won't be happy we recruited a similar age player to take his role. Look what Real Madrid paid us for Hazard after he was done, and gave us Mak for a song as well as Kov, so they are not infallible. Personally I think letting Mendy go was a huge f-up, yes he had a couple off weeks before he spent the year mostly injured but he was quality, dominated the air and we won some cool silver with him between the sticks.
Real Madrid's first choice goalkeeper is Courtois. They needed a last minute replacement and they managed to get a top Spanish GK on a loan. Very smart business for them. When we lost Courtois and we needed a last minute replacement we totally panicked and over spent. I am not convinced by Sanchez. I have serious doubts. I hope that I am proven wrong. I am not impressed by the Serbian lad either.
