Player Availability Reports Injury absences to be listed here. Stian, Muyumba, Mosquera and Togashi out thru injury. International duty, meanwhile: Luis Abram Miguel Almirón Luke Brennan (U-20) Dominik Chong Qui (U-18) Noah Cobb (U-20) Ajani Fortune Saba Lobjanidze Efraín Morales Bartosz Slisz Emmanuel Latte Lath Recent Form Atlanta (4-5-8) RBNY 2-0 ATL ATL 3-2 ORL ATL 4-2 FCC Citeh (7-4-6) NSC 2-2 CFG CFG 0-3 HOU CFG 3-1 CHI ~ Sorry this is last minute. Such was my relief at the pause in the schedule, and knowing the Stripes wouldn't be at home for a long while, I just assumed this match was Saturday. Some fan I am, eh? Anyway, for those clinging to hope or placing prop bets on how often Slisz will throw his hands up in disgust, the lads are back in action tonight. This time they're on the east side of the Hudson for their next-to-last match* on Yankee Stadium's U-12 pitch. The Pigeons will be without one of their midfield stalwarts thru injury as well as their starting keeper and leading scorer due to international duty, but that list is a LOT shorter than Atlanta's. So the forecast calls for a lot of less-than-sexy play, it would appear. Apart from Thiare, Atlanta will be hurting for speed let alone potency: Among available players for tonight the Stripes' roster has accounted for a mere 6 goals. So my suggestion is expect an attempt at defensive solidity but have some tequila on stand by. *= Barring playoffs
Will be late joining while I finish a workout, but your XI for tonight: Thiare Miranchuk, Reilly, Klich, Saba Amador, Hernandez, Williams, Edwards, Lennon Guzan
18' 0-0 After a 90 second review a PK opportunity for Atlanta is denied for ... whatever. I thought it was solid given. Alas Best opportunity otherwise came in the first 3 mins, when Saba broke into the goal box and rolled a cross to Thiare, only for a defender to beat him to the ball.
I'm listening on radio so I can't say to this particular call. But I feel like Atlanta needs to retaliate against PRO. Cut off the AC in their locker room, paint the walls right before a game, something incredibly petty like that.
30' 0-0 Citeh had a weak header on target earlier, otherwise it's been a display in why these teams aren't in the Club World Cup.
38' sees an Atlanta goal off a corner called back for offside. If Thiare hadn't tried to punch it home Williams header might have gone in on its own. Damn
F***. Lennon attempts a braindead back pass that rolls right too Maxi Moralez, who punishes the mistake. 1-0 against the run of play.
57' 3-0 Pigeons have a throw in in the offensive third, which leads to a pass to that top of the box that a player snap-shots into the corner. Nothing Brad could have done to make it 2-0. A minute later, more great passing by CFG as they weave upfield and create an opportunity from the left side of the box. Their passing is a level better than first half
58' 4-0 Another midfield giveaway, leads to a nice pass up the center of the field to create a breakaway. Williams now down. * sigh *
Alluding to the first goal, Roberson posting that Atlanta has passed directly to an opponent and thus creating a goal at least 3 times this season. I would've guessed that number to be higher. They've now surrendered the 2nd most goals in the league so far. Oddly enough, DCU has surrendered more and scored fewer, yet they have a point more than Atlanta.
FT: 4-0 Since my last post there were some subs, some running around, and lots of long balls showcasing how the field's tiny size. Same old story: Atlanta undone by individual mistakes and turning off as a team defensively. 3 goals surrendered inside of 5' might be a new record, even for them. For my money, it's all about the midfield. Atlanta's is simply too weak with the ball, gives the ball away too easily, and absolutely woeful in defense. That woeful defending is partly a byproduct of giving away so many balls, leaving players out of position and scrambling to recover. This isn't to absolve the defense or the underperforming attackers, but neither of those elements can work effectively if your primary ball handlers suck.I'd keep Fortune and Muyumba, but the other midfielders are all expendable to me. Anyway. That's over. Time to start building for '26.
I missed this one due to work. This is by far the worst team we've ever fielded, and it's basically that the players don't care. They've shown they're talented enough to score goals. Ronny has proven with multiple teams that he can coach. But there's no chemistry, no zeal.
I had ATL picked 2nd expecting a improved defense and a explosive attack. Man was i wrong , I had Crew at 6th until summer window You guys going to address your issues in the summer ? I sure hope my Crew address our lack of a star to replace Cucho. you guys aré dangerous and talented when focused but I don’t understand what the problem is.
The club seems to be able to sign talent, but not talent that works together. For years now, it's been the case of the whole being less than the sum of it's parts, and it doesn't look like it's going to change any time soon. Playoff teams usually have around 43ish points at the end of the season, and for Atlanta to reach that they'd have to play at around a 1.7 ppg rate for the rest of the season, and I don't see it happening. There's rumors of a CB coming in in the summer, but the squad needs a massive overhaul, and I doubt we'll see it until the winter, when a good bit of the roster has their contracts expire.
Yeah, I don't even know what the problem is. Our attack and defense both are really poor. Is it scouting or coaching or roster construction.
At this point it's a team culture issue. They don't play for each other. They're listless and have no drive as a team. Not really sure how to solve that.
