Here are my match ratings for the Burn vs LA (1-1) Any thoughts? Countess 7 Brrome 5 Morrow 6 Suarez 7 Bonseu 6 Martinez 6 Deering 6 Obrien 8 Vaca 7 Rhine 6 Kries 6
I'd say that you were a bit charitable with your 6 rating for Rhine. From what I saw of him yesterday, I can say that I'm very interested in seeing EJ as a starter.
I thought Suarez really looked good in the middle. He does need to be careful though. He could have easily drawn a PK with his tackle on Ruiz where it really looked like he went through Ruiz to get the ball. That awful Deering/Vaudreil hairdo needs to go, but I was quite pleased with his play in the middle. Rhine did get the assist or he would have rated even lower than the proposed 4.5. I hope to see more of Johnson, Stone and Davis.
Pretty good scores. In addition to lowering Rhine, I'd move Chivas up a little and Deering down some, but otherwise right on.
I'll maybe listen to counter-arguments, but did Obrien really deserve an 8? Surely a team w/ an 8 quality player on the field would have created a TON of scoring opportunities beyond the one goal.
He was really the key contributor in the first half, he also forced Hartman into touching one over on a half volley.
I thought Bonseu's play on the right flank was a present surprise. He got off a shot on goal, made some nice crosses, and all in all, looks to be more of an offensive threat than Suarez was last year.
Exactly what my comment was to be. Not many notice how athletic he is because of his playing a stalwart mid defending role. Now fans will see how fast he is, and, how creative he can be on over-runs. His position will be a big boon and continue to develop for the Burn. Also to be noted was that O'brien deserved the 8 even more so because of his playing the middle instead of his familiar right-side role. His defensive play with Deering was inspiring... and also a relief. I don't like Vaca in the middle at all. O'brien caused big problems for defenders all day. This will continue for the whole season. I'd pay to see him play any day. Great soccer.
Sorry, I give Suarez a 5. He had a couple of bad gaffes and really set up Ruiz on the goal. I understand it's a new position that he'll learn, but he's not there yet.
Suarez really did mar an otherwise solid performance with his error on the Ruiz goal and should probably be downgraded as mentioned. One advantage of having O'brien in the middle is that it allows us to have both he and Vaca on the field at the same time. I thought Vaca looked fantastic Saturday - the best I've seen him in a while.
3 burn defenders alone with Ruiz, Ruiz scores. Funny bounces aside, all 3 deserve some blame. I don't know what Morrow was doing with the hands up, backing off move I don't know what Suarez was doing when he collided into Morrow. Either way, there was as communication breakdown on that play. Looked like Broome got beat on a funny bounce, but he's got to recover better.
I disagree with some of the ratings. 1) Vaca was invisible for much of the game. No way he deserved a 7. 2) Chivas was dynamic and deserved a better rating. Creative offensive game. 3) Deering, I actually believe he earned higher. O'Brien and Vaca got pissed off when he yelled at them, but in fact he did a very good job at organizing the midfield in Pareja's absence. Didn't do anything brilliant, but was a fantastic organizer during the match. Vaca needs to quit bitching and listen to the guy, because he knows what he is talking about. 4) O'Brien deserves about a 6.5. Brilliant first half, but then ran himself into the ground and was invisible and made some questionable decisions passing the ball towards the end of his time on the field. 5) In NO way what-so-ever does Morrow deserve a lower rating than Suarez. The match changed for LA when they switched Ruiz to work against Suarez. For the first 20 minutes of the game, Morrow OWNED him. Throughout the game, he did a wonderful job of organizing the backline and intercepting passes on great reads. Suarez struggled against Ruiz, and in fact disappointed me enough that I took him off my fantasy league team. If you have a tape, watch the first twenty minutes or so. Morrow marks Ruiz very tightly, so that he doesn't even have a chance to flop because he doesn't see the ball. Suarez covers him loosely, and allows him to get touches on the ball, hence the diving for the rest of the match.
Hmmm. I thought Vaca definitely deserved a 7. And I don't think Chad deserved higher. He was ok, not spectacular, just ok.
