MLS is running a special First Kick promo rate on their Match Day Live service which streams all non-nationally broadcast games. Full season for $39.99. Full regular price of $59.99 returns on 3/28.

I had MDL last year, and it was great for watching other teams around the league. Also, I used this to watch home games that I had attended the following day (or in the case of an FSC or ESPN broadcast, a couple days later as they take 3-5 days to show up).

Really easily worth the $40 in my opinion. I'm interested to see if games will be locally blacked out since they'll be on Comcast now. If so, you might be able to sign up using a visa pre-paid card and 'illegitimate' billing address, but I'm not sure what the legal implications of that are (or if it would work or the service bases 'local' on your IP address).

Forgot to add that it also has a great archive feature to watch all of the games from last season. I have the PPL opener on in the background at work right now.

I did MDL last year, when I was living at home. Spent more time on the computer then. Now I'm in my own place again, with the TV/DVR setup so I ordered DK.

I'd advise either MDL or DK depending on your individual setup or taste.

MDL is half the price as well.

My favorite features from MDL are:

1) It has a chat feature, so you can get in there and talk trash to fans from other cities.
2) Great for taking screenshots to highlight specific stuff on forum posts... such as when a TFC fan almost beaned Freddie w/ a powerade bottle

3) When you're watching the replay you can use the 'game tracker' feature to jump to specific events (shot, foul, goal, etc).

I signed up for this. About how long after games are they available online? I have to work tomorrow night.

I really want to get MDL but there are a couple things stopping me. I live in state college so Im pretty much on the line for the Philly and Pittsburgh markets. I get CSN and Im able to watch sixers games, but every single Flyers game gets blacked out. So I want to get MDL but Ill be pretty mad if I end up not being to watch any of the games

Local/Regional Market Territories
: In the United States, MLS Club Local/Regional Market Territories are
generally reflective of the applicable local/regional broadcaster’s signal
footprint as reasonably determined in coordination with the local broadcaster
and MLS.

• Each U.S. Local/Regional Match Broadcast which is blacked
out is available to view in the applicable MLS Club Local/Regional Market
Territories on MatchDay Live and MatchDay Live Mobile twenty-four (24) hours
after the end of the original live broadcast.

Hopefully since you do not fall into the broadcast area of the local market of Philadelphia, you would be able to watch on MDL.

National
Broadcasts
:

• MLS games broadcast on national television in the United
States (e.g., ESPN, Fox Soccer Channel & Telefutura) (each a “U.S. National
Match Broadcasts”) are blacked out on MatchDay Live and MatchDay Live Mobile.
U.S. National Match Broadcasts are available for viewing

• forty-eight (48) hours after the end of the original live broadcast.

We're officially blacked out. Just opened the player to see if there are any early games today (there aren't), and I see our game listed as blocked.

Go figure. Every non-national game was available last season. Broadcast rights are ridiculous.

Does anyone know how MDL determines your location? Does it go by billing address or the IP from which you're logging on? If billing address, couldn't you just get a prepay Visa card and make up an address in another market?

Note: I'm still happy with the purchase because I like to watch the replays and other teams' games, but I'm glad I got the discounted rate; wouldn't be worth the full price.

Yeah they do this every year. The local archived broadcast usually goes up the next day or so. Not sure how they determine your locality.

Last year, I was able to watch Union games on there, though. No change of address or anything for me. (shrug)

Edit: Actually, the only change I can think of is that I was on Verizon DSL before, now I'm on Comcast. Don't know if that could somehow be related.

I've been using MDL in its various forms for years now, and MLS took a BIG step up with the quality last year. The picture looks better than on the SD tv.

/plus I'm moving to Chicago in June, so MDL will be my only way to catch most Union games.

Will this work overseas? I am going to Italy for the summer and wondering if its worth getting to watch the replays.

FWIW, if you want to put this off for another week, MLS Direct Kick has a free weekend. Union game is on channel 1495 on FIOS.

How many times is that Goalie going to get smoked in that commercial? I mean the guy puts it in the top corner EVERY TIME. :p

Yeah MDL is still blocked for me for the Union feed this morning. Hopefully they'll add the replay soon. It would be nice if they added the pregame / postgame video feeds on there as well, but like DirectKick they only show the game proper.

ughhh.... I can concede on live broadcasts, but why the hell do I need to wait 48 hours to be able to see the replay?

it's not like WPVI is showing it again and this cuts into their broadcast

Oh boy... do I regret plugging this for this season.

Here's a sample of how NOT to do customer service (bear in mind that I allowed 2-3 minutes to pass after each of their posts before commenting). Also, I swear to god that the end isn't sarcastic, and I've had to work shitty days on call, so I know how much it can suck.

You are now chatting with MLS
MLS: Hello, how may I help you?
Kevin Sullivan: I'm pretty upset right now. I remember your service being fantastic last season, and only one week into this season, I'm seeing a major drop-off. I've been waiting since Saturday to be able to watch a replay of the Philadelphia Union - Houston Dynamo match. Finally, tonight, I was able to stream it as the 48-hour blackout restriction (new for this year) expired. I watched the first 20 minutes or so with amazing picture and sound quality. Suddenly, the game started jumping in time, first a second here, a second there, then several seconds. It got progressively worse as the first half wore on. I verified that the issue wasn't my connection. ...but I figured, what the heck, it's streaming... sometimes there are issues. So I sat through it. Boy was I surprised when halftime came, and the game then resumed 10 minutes later at the 55th minute with absolutely horrible picture quality
Kevin Sullivan: and a stream that sounded like it was coming from AM radio.
Kevin Sullivan: I can only hope this has something to do with Houston's broadcast because I watched the Vancouver - Toronto game on Sunday via your service and didn't have these issues.
Kevin Sullivan: The only thing I'm grateful for right now is that the Union scored early which I was able to see, but I'm pretty pissed that the second half is all but unwatchable
MLS: We are unaware of any issues on that feed but I will report this to our tech team to look into further
Kevin Sullivan: Okay. As I said, though, I'm 100% sure it isn't a connection issue, and even if it were, that wouldn't explain why the game goes from the players walking into the tunnel to the 55th minute
Kevin Sullivan: I think something is wrong.
MLS: Ok I will pass that along
Kevin Sullivan: so... that's that? No "sorry?" No "thanks for bringing it to our attention?" Not even a "is there anything else?" From someone who works in a tech support capacity, that's somewhat disconcerting. I'll chalk it up to you're having a crappy night, and if that's the case, I sincerely hope it gets better. Thanks for your time.
MLS: No problem have a good night

Sully that's because the Houston feed got messed up when the power went out in one of their trucks. They even had to show the 6abc broadcast in the stadium because the houston feed was dead. I think they should put the 6abc full broadcast up but I think they just show what they showed live to everyone else. It was houston tv channels fault for the issues but they should replace it with 6abc.

Thanks a ton for the info; I thought it might be the source's fault.

Would have been so much better if they could have acknowledged that... even if they had to leave it flawed, at least say "Yes, sir, there's a known issue with that feed; we're sorry for the trouble and hope you'll bear with us"

ughh... maybe I'm just too whipped by my own users :(

I think on twitter the Houston match announcer said that he had to use a cell phone to call the tv station at one point to keep doing the commentary because the truck died. Too funny.

Funny, but annoying as hell when I want to see the impact that Mwanga had off the bench and take a close look at how the team performed in the second half.
