Hey FIFA says Poland is a #1 seed, so you may be on to something.

He was winning every ball in his area and help control possession for Portugal. Not sure how you didnt see that.

It's the older players who played their heart out for Portugal.
A 35 year old Quaresma scored. A 33 year old Ronaldo tracked back to defend. At some point, as a game progresses into extra time, these guys are going to run out of steam.

Eh, Morocco gifted them their win, and all they do is defend.

Ronaldo looks for penalty gets it.

Jose Fonte going down lightest touch every few seconds. Quaresma diving and then getting up 2 min later to kick Ezzatollahi.

Honestly Ezzatollahi should have given Ronaldo a REAL reason to go on the ground.

Anyway saw your racist post in the Portuguese forum against us. Good luck vs Uruguay you classy gent

After seeing the ridiculous PK given to the Iranians I don't think you can say this and keep a straight face!! VAR or no VAR this was a terribly refereed!! If that was a PK then I am the Queen! Iran didn't really have enough to trouble Portugal but as somebody from a country who has 'suffered' from Portugal's 'unsavoury' tactics in the past I can't say I feel sorry for them!

tough group, very close to go through

one thing I think was good, is that by playing Spain and Portugal, team melli organizers can make good and direct connections with them,

hoping it could yield good opportunities for future friendlies, training assistance and even team melli players getting chances to play for good European teams

What a bad miss by Taremi right at the end of the game, which would given Iran its unlikely ticket to the next round. Feel bad for him because he knows he should have finished that chance.

Anyway, this was an intense game. I don't have much energy to write a lot about the game right now but am proud of the effort put in by Iran's players. They tried their best and while it wasn't enough for Iran to advance, Iran at least leave the tournament with our heads up.

Had Iran managed to put the ball into the net on its clear chances, the table standing would be quite different despite having two world class teams in the group and a very fine Morocco.

Tough group considering the two qualifying teams escaped elimination by one point. Iran did very well.

That was a PK and the PK given to Portugal was a fake one. CR7 was lucky not getting a red card. Overall referee was kind to Portugal. You got away with a draw which could be a 2-1 loss if the Iranian striker was a little more careful in that last minute opportunity. Walk away and be happy for now. You have advanced to next round.

I think VAR has been a step in the right direction, but it has to be used properly. At this point, you kick a player's leg (especially CR7's leg) or have the ball hit your hand in the box (despite no intent) and a PK is awarded. Meanwhile, players getting shoved to the ground (e.g. Azmoun by Carvalho) is ignored. Either call them all PKs or none of them, but there needs to be some consistency.

You seriously believe the Portuguese defender deliberately handled the ball!!! You gotta be joking! Pundits on the BBC called the decision 'a farce' and I for one agree with them, it was a joke! Hats off to Iran for their effort though, they never gave up, they just didn't have the quality to really test the Portuguese keeper, would have been nice if they had put that last minute chance away!

He should have shoot into the far corner. Too bad. He would be a hero in Iran if he would have scored.

Iran essentially did nothing the entire game and were mostly dangerous because they were offered a very questionable pk
The PK was as fake as you're objective.

He looks slow as molasses but he is physical and looks smooth dishing out the ball.

My heart is broken for Iran. There was so much fight in them! Morocco was also incredibly unlucky in this WC despite showing great football. Very evenly matched group, this WC seeding was trash.

And to be fair, both of IRA-POR PKs looked iffy to me, I also think that the CR7 card controversy was bs, not even a foul in my opinion. I think everything looks way harsher when you carefully watch for every detail in slow motion. The time wasted on VAR in this match was simply absurd.

I really really hope they get a better ref for Uruguay-Portugal because this match will be hard to ref. World class "catimba".

You guys will never convince each other of anything, we are all way to rooted in our own teams - so no point going back and forth with each other. Only few things I want to say before I leave this cesspool of a thread.

    1. Great group B - it literally went all the way to the end, and lots of points were decided in final minutes. Definitely most entertaining group for my opinion.

    2. After all the Portugal fans complained and pointed fingers about diving and wasting time - please, after today, I think you lost the right to do that any more. Falling on any touch, wasting time against Iran... you are supposed to be the superior team with world class talent. If you are wasting time and diving vs Iran, then never make fun of other teams again.

    3. 100% penalty - you can't jump around with your arms flapped out in the box and complain if the ball hits your hand. It was his own fault.

    4. Ronaldo was not competing for any ball on that elbow. The ball was well out of reach, and no players around. He literally had the whole field to run towards the ball. Why he chose to run directly through a player and elbow him in the chin is beyond me. Given the scenario, that is a red, and it was completely unnecessary.

Thanks for a great group overall, and proud of my team. Shout out to all teams for keeping things entertaining until literally the final moments of the group. I think every one will be happy with their teams.

Good luck and fair play in the next games to Spain and Portugal.
