I don't understand the problem. Holland looked dull before Elia and better after him. Holland is a different team with him and Robben on the wings. We just played the wrong gameplan. It was already said on dutch tv before the game. This was predicted. On top of that Denmark played their game against Holland. they disrupted Hollands flow. Good for them bad for us. From a tournemnt perspective it is good how Holland won. Not good but 3 points in the bag. England and France can't say that. I think Denmark is better than USA and Urugay.

For the people who want to see good football. have patience with us, we will get there. Wait until Elia and Robben play on the wings and a team that likes to play game. I think the Japan game can be something to look forward to.

Holland is now unbeaten for 20 straight games. That is a record in our entire history. Holland did win it's opening match against a disrupting opponant, with a wrong gameplan. You have to admit we looked better with one winger in the last 25 minutes. The altitude played a role said Dirk Kuyt in a post macth interview but that was not it IMO. We played with vd Vaart and Sneijder trough their center, their strongest cards, Agger and Kjear. Their backs were weak and we should have confronted them with wingers. We have Babel and Elia and they should have played from the start. If Robben is back we will look a total different side. I'm sure of that.

And also..... France and England didn't win their opeing match. We did. Denmark is a difficult opponant. We have 3 points to start the tounement.

I would never judge a team by a single match. So I fully agree here with you. Denmark might have looked a little boring, but that doesnt mean that their defense wasnt effective.

However, the point I strongly disagree with is the old dutch tradition of believing in single players being able to change the whole game.

Robben will not create what isn't already there. Your team will not look brand-new and reborn once he is back.

we won 2 - 0 against a denmark side that took 4 points off portugal in qualifying.

denmark and portugal are both our bogus team where as denmark has never lost their 1st game in a tournament before.

good result for oranje, we've finally shown we can get results while playing very badly. :p

I put most of this in my blog (see sig), but I think Elia should start until Robben is healthy again. The Dutch need someone who is really quick that can run at the defense from the outside, and Elia did that, having an immediate impact from the moment he came on.

I would take Raphael van der Vaart out for that, he was constantly playing out of position, and clogging up the space for Sneijder to work his magic.

Both Dutch goals were preventable if Denmark had made a better effort. I don't know if it's the altitude or attitude that is to blame.

So much for one player not making a difference Elia was worlds better than the man he substituted for (Van Der Vaart?). His pace created all sorts of problems for the Danish defence.

I will be honest and say I can't speak honestly about Robben and his potential impact but the Dutch gritted out a wi. It was not a thing of beauty but it's the type of win that you need in the cup.

AFAImC this was a great opener. Lousy game, actually lucky to break the game open without having to score ourselves. Much to be concerned about, a lot of work to do and absolutely no reason to even think we might just win it all.

I'll take it over an astonishing 5-0 any day.

Dont forget we also hit the crossbar once and had a ball cleared off the goalline that was headed in. 2nd half we did better, not bad for our first game

Well, since both teams actually scored goals, these girls can all be happy and we're all winners for it! :)

Of course Denmark wishes its goal was in the other net . . . .

Mea culpa. I'm so sorry the first half made your eyes bleed. I am so sorry there was less magic in the team without robben. I am so sorry the endresult isn't 8-0, eventhough nearly everyone was predicting a tough 1-0 2-1 or maybe even a draw result. I am so sorry van persie had his aim off today. I am so sorry van der vaart didn't play his free role out the way he should've. I am so sorry the danes, *clearly* a soccer midget!!, had the nerve and audacity to even create some good chances in the 1st half. I am so sorry the dutch team had a good, young vibrant positional opponent that couldn't be outplayed and worn out the way say germany humiliated australia. I am so sorry we just got 3 points against what we deem our toughest opponent in this group, a team that qualified in their group before portugal and jousted Sweden out of the WC. I am so sorry we jedi mind tricked poulsen to carambol into his own defender landing us a goal. I am so sorry eljero elia didnt play the entire match.

At the end of the day, all that counts is: 3 points and +2GF. I agree the first half was a pretty dismal performance, but these matches just need a goal scored to get started.

Well, we got 3 pts. What I am trying to figure out is why the van der Vaart expirement continues. Ruud Gullit in the studio here in the US was saying that van der Vaart kept drifting inside and was clogging up the middle. I wonder what Marwijk sees in van der Vaart. Dejong is a red card waiting to happen, he's been a moron since he left for the EPL his tackling today was shocking. All in all glad we got 3 pts on to the next WITHOUT van der Vaart starting.

it's not just vdv, it's because we play both vdv and kuyt that it happends. one or both should be benched.

when robben is back, the big 4 with vdv, sneijder, rvp & robben is probably our best option. vdv wasn't that bad he was actually our most dangerous player in the 1st half, he had a few shots.

me personally i want to see both elia and robben on the flanks.

Elia for Vaart against Japan. We need speed on the wings.

And I wouldnt mind Babel getting some playing time also, he might be able to create chances against lesser cornerbacks

Oh please. Go and read my posts all over the Bigsoccer forum...and you will swallow your words.

I am a South African fan...I actually want the Germans to lose because Germany gave South Africa a bad name with their Bullet Proof Vest madness...

But since i try not to be biased, i actually give them credit where credit is due. They seem like a excellent team, even if they were wearing those vests. You're blind if you cannot admit their class in their opening game....even if Australia fell apart.

As for everyone should play like the Germans: You TOTALLY took it out of context...My point was if that one team can be happy with the jabulane ball, other teams can learn from them and not make excuses...Why can the Germans play like they did with the ball, yet others make excuses? Sais to me the Germans are professional enough knowing that both teams are playing with the same ball on the field.

A poor worksman blames his tools...

Dirk Kuyt must probably have the best concentration than any player in this world cup. His alertness on his goal was brilliant....

Perhaps you should be informed that all the German players have been playing with this new Jabulani ball since January. The Bundesliga introduced the ball at that time and so the Germans have had 6 months to get used to it. Other teams and leagues could not introduce the Jabulani ball as they had existing contractual obligations to use other balls.

Most teams are just getting adjusted to playing in matches with the new ball. German players are not.
