I love Suarez, so I hope he'll be home soon to start preparations with my beloved/hated Ajax.

Almost certainly the same as it has been ever since Robben returned. And that was the same formation they played before that.

    I agree!!!

On a side note, Nigel De Jong's absence has to be the least discussed topic leading into the game....He will be sorely missed..
He is having a great tournament, along with Bradley and Schweinsteiger, he has been one of the best holding mf's this WC

Nigel de Jong and Gregory vd Wiel are missing at the dutch formation. I think Boularouz and de Zeeuw are playing instead. Holland is the favorite but it's gonna be very difficult. I say 2-1 for Holland!

Although he's had a major impact at this tournament, I don't think he will be sorely missed today. That position can be easily filled - in fact, depending on what our coach does, his replacement there can open up the nature of the game (with vd Vaart or Afellay).

But that's unlikely - a much better bet is that De Zeeuw will be starting.

Perhaps you are right..with Suarez out of the game....De Zeeuw and van Bommel
's job policing the middle should be a bit easier....

Who ever play's for de Jong has to not foul, for that matter the Netherlands team better not foul near the box area. Forlan could change the game with his great set piece/free kicks. To me this is the way for Uruguay to win.

Holland and Uruguay have faced off 4 times in history, with Uruguay winning 3 and Holland winning 1.

    World Cup
    1974 (Group) -- Holland 2, Uruguay 1
    2010 (Final Four) -- ??

    Olympics
    1924 (Final Four) -- Uruguay 2, Holland 1
    1928 (Round of 16) -- Uruguay 2, Holland 0

    Friendlies

    1980 -- Uruguay 2, Holland 0

Yep, he was #4, center-back. He also got a yellow card in that game for a whack at Ruud Krol. That 1974 World Cup was Holland's first World Cup since 1938. Uruguay finished #4 at the previous World Cup in 1970 (they lost to Brasil in the semi-finals and to Germany in the 3rd place match).

1980 wasn't a friendly. It was the Mundialito(Mini World Cup), where all the previous WC Champions participated except England which gave its place to the Netherlands. It was a tournament taken very seriously and Uruguay beat the Netherlands, which came off 2 straight final berths

    1924 and 1928 we didn't really have a team
    1974 we won
1980 was in the mini-wc for 50 year FIFA. But it was in december and january and the dutch players didn't want to go so they sent some b-players like Martin Jol.

Weird that the FIFA site (and other sites) call the 1980 game a friendly. Wonder why?

But yes, it was the 1980 Mundialito.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1980_Mundialito

Uruguay won it all, beating Holland 2-0, Italy 2-0, and then Brasil 2-1 in the final.

Best of luck to my Uruguayan brothers and especially to El Maestro Tabarez. The great Oscar Tabarez, who coached Boca Juniors to a Copa Libertadores title. Boca fans do not forget and I support you one hundred percent!

    Vamos Uruguay!

I share that sentiment. It seems like manifest destiny for them to repeat the past glories.

We are all Uruguayan today. :)

  24. Tabares told in an interview he met Rinus Michels at the Euro 1988 and that he said to him the Dutch donot like it when we donot attack and that that was what he always remembers, but that the Dutch side now nows how to defend.

    Hope so

The Express & Star, the biggest-selling regional evening newspaper in the UK, predicts that Uruguay will win on PKs...

While they haven’t exactly set the world alight, the Dutch deserve their place for their spirited second-half comeback against Brazil.
    ...
I can see this one going to penalties again [like Uruguay's last game].
Holland’s record in shoot-outs is about as good as England’s and I can see Uruguay’s remarkable run continuing to set up a final date with Germany.
