Match #61 France : Belgium Tuesday, 10 July 2018 21:00 local time (14:00 EDT) Saint Petersburg Referee: Andres Cunha (URU) AR1: Nicolas Taran (URU) AR2: Mauricio Espinosa (URU) Fourth Official: Cesar Arturo Ramos (MEX) Reserve AR: Marvin Torrentera (MEX)
Video Assistant Referee: Massimiliano Irrati (ITA) AVAR 1: Mauro Vigliano (ARG) AVAR 2: Roberto Diaz Perez (ESP) AVAR 3: Paolo Valeri (ITA)
Geiger and Marrufo are both still there. Marrufo had a 4O the other day, but I haven't even seen Geiger on the VAR list. Do you think he could get one of the last two games? Several of the other usual elite officials that you might expect in the these games have already been used in the quarter and semi-finals.
Marrufo was sent home along with one of Geiger’s ARs so Geiger will not be a center on one of the final two games.
Hey guys, let's keep the assignment discussion to one of those theads: https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/general-discussion-all-assignments.2084205/
Why does it seem like all of the WC res use the one armed advantage? It bugs the crap out of me but I know that it’s technically correct.
As I understand it, the FIFA refs asked for the change because it is easier to run with one arm up than both. So it is hardly surprising that they use it.
Well they have 2 options: one or 2 armed and if they’ve been using 2 armed all their lives then it would make sense to continue it because you’re used to it, wouldn’t it? Unless it is the scenario that SoCal Lurker just mentioned.
Interesting. Would anyone try to make the argument tha the ball is unexpected because of the attempted play on the ball by the FRA defender (despite him not actually touching it)?
Why complicate an easy flowing game? Cunha so far being what every ref should aspire to be: unnoticed. So far so good.
Who wouldn't make that argument? Took an unexpected bounce, hit his arm which was right by his side. Don't see handling there at all.
Because if you don't "complicate" the game by calling the obvious fouls/cards, the game will most certainly complicate itself later.
