Re: Match 58 (QF) - Winner 49 v Winner 50 - Pre-Match Thread I reckon Uruguay will be in the semi's and represent South America
Re: Match 58 (QF) - Winner 49 v Winner 50 - Pre-Match Thread This will be a tough match for us. Ghana is a very fast and relentless team, and that could give us trouble. They looked impressive today, but the USA just looked completely awful. Their defense looked pretty good, but our strikers always find a way to score. They must be very tired though, and have 6 days to rest. Hopefully we learn from our mistakes, and beat them up, but it will be a very close game with some goals, and I wouldn't be surprised if we go to ET or penalties. For superstition purposes, I won't post my prediction
Re: Match 58 (QF) - Winner 49 v Winner 50 - Pre-Match Thread Again, it's going to be a very close game. There is no favorite. Ghana showed they have the toughness and discipline to pull out a hard fought win and nothing was given to them versus the USA. They also put to rest the idea that they can't score. This will be the toughest game both teams have played to this point. Uruguay has better attackers than the USA, but Ghana has taken a much tougher path to the quarterfinals than Uruguay having to go through USA and Germany. Ghana has been through some wars and are prepared.
Re: Match 58 (QF) - Winner 49 v Winner 50 - Pre-Match Thread Ayew & Johnatan are suspended in Ghana, no one on uruguay. I just hop Godin can use the time for be 100% in that game, we will need it. Victorino is doing it pretty well but Godin has been enormous.
Re: Match 58 (QF) - Winner 49 v Winner 50 - Pre-Match Thread No one is suspended for Uruguay? As physical as they play that is impressive.
Re: Match 58 (QF) - Winner 49 v Winner 50 - Pre-Match Thread Can Ghana appeal the yellow? Clearly it was referee mistake.
Re: Match 58 (QF) - Winner 49 v Winner 50 - Pre-Match Thread I prefer Ghana over Uruguay, especially if Ghana play anything like they did in the first 30 minutes against the US. Those 30 minutes from Ghana represented possibly the best opening 30 minutes of football in this tournament, matched perhaps only by Germany's first half demolition of Australia and surpassing Argentina's first half performance against S.Korea.
Re: Match 58 (QF) - Winner 49 v Winner 50 - Pre-Match Thread Jonathan not a problem if Isaac Vorsah back from injury. Vorsah first choice defender anyway. Andre Ayew big loss. But Sulley Muntari is on bench. Hopefully Boateng not injured.
Re: Match 58 (QF) - Winner 49 v Winner 50 - Pre-Match Thread this will be a tough game. I wonder how the coach is going to line up the boys esp with Ayew's 2 yellows. Muntari's fitness is a huge problem, but his experience could help I predicted before the WC that Ghana would play 5 games. hmmm.
Re: Match 58 (QF) - Winner 49 v Winner 50 - Pre-Match Thread I more than anyone else knows that this match will be a really tough game, and yes I have respect for Uruguay too, as they are a very good team, and I wonder how our coach is going to line up our squad especially since Ayew is out for this game, and since Jonathan Mensah is out for this game too, that is why I am hoping Vorsah heals up in time by Friday to take Jonathan's spot in our line-up, and to replace Ayew I think we have to start Dominic Adiyiah, and hear me out on why I think Adiyiah deserves to start in Ayew's place because Adiyiah he's a goal-scorer, and during the 2009 FIFA U-20s he was our star, and I think Adiyiah can play in midfield just behind Asamoah Gyan, as Adiyiah has the speed and the pace, and he can score like I have been saying. If not, Adiyiah, then Quincy Owusu-Abeyie should start in Dede's place
Re: Match 58 (QF) - Winner 49 v Winner 50 - Pre-Match Thread Shhh...you're not supposed to say that about an African team. How dare you compare Ghana to Germany. OK, sarcasm over lol. I agree though, that 1st half against the USA was a total rout. USA looked extremely flat, and if Ghana comes out playing like that against Uruguay...they can certainly advance to the semifinals.
Re: Match 58 (QF) - Winner 49 v Winner 50 - Pre-Match Thread This should be a very good match. Ghana is a 'young', good team that is missing their best player, injury. Uruguay has played very good this WC. Forlan,Suarez,Cavani Uruguay forwards, solid mid, and good defenders.
Re: Match 58 (QF) - Winner 49 v Winner 50 - Pre-Match Thread like I brought up before the US Ghana match, Ghana has been severely tested already, I think Germany's rout of England is testament to this. Uruguay has looked really strong , but I just wonder how strong the teams they have come across have been. France were woeful, SA were out of their depth, Mexico is pretty to watch at times but not that solid a side, and Korea really only looked good against Greece. Could this be the difference in this match. I really dont think Uruguay would have looked anywhere as good if they came through Ghana's route, and Ghana has actually looked pretty good against some very tough sides.
Re: Match 58 (QF) - Winner 49 v Winner 50 - Pre-Match Thread Uruguay noma! Let's hope it's an all S.American semi-final! That way FIFA doesn't get any crazy ideas about taking another qualifier slot from us.
Re: Match 58 (QF) - Winner 49 v Winner 50 - Pre-Match Thread I agree and I think that is one of the main things Ghana have going for them. They have been tested. They played well against a German team that needed a result. They managed to overcome the spirit of an American team, and calmed themselves down when the match could have easily gotten away from them. Their defense has played decently, but if Forlan and company have a big day I'm not sure they can prevent Uruguay from scoring. I think it comes down to how many times Ghana can score on Uruguay. If it's twice, Ghana have a good shot at winning. If it's once, I think it goes to PKs. If they can't score, I think Uruguay edge out a 1-0 win. Hopefully Gyan shows up against Uruguay. Whatever the case, Ghana really need to have a good day against Uruguay to advance. They need to play to their full capabilities otherwise Uruguay advance imo.
Re: Match 58 (QF) - Winner 49 v Winner 50 - Pre-Match Thread Vamos la Celeste. I hope you execute better than the USMNT did.
Re: Match 58 (QF) - Winner 49 v Winner 50 - Pre-Match Thread They will...the US has no striker even near to the talent of Suarez and Forlan.
Re: Match 58 (QF) - Winner 49 v Winner 50 - Pre-Match Thread Maybe if there were "lapse" Football WC, imagine Ghana`s first 30 min. v/s Italy`s last 30 min (against Slovakia). Argentina`s first half v/s Germany`s first half What great games they would be But since Football games last for 90 minutes or 120 minutes (with overtime), although still a very tough game, where anyone of the two can win, I`ll stay with Uruguay for this match in this WC.
I am really hoping, no I am praying, I am really really praying that we beat Uruguay on Friday, and go into the final 4, into the semi-finals, and that we do make history by becoming the first African team in FIFA World Cup history to make it to the semi-finals. Ghana & Uruguay we have two very different contrasting styles, but I think it makes it all the more intriguing to see who wins this match, imagine if The Black Stars of Ghana & The La Celeste of Uruguay play this match for 120 minutes and no one scores, and it has to go into penalty shootout to decide who goes through to the semi-finals. I am really praying we win on Friday, and that we do make history in the process
I always think in Ghana how the best African Team before this WC and they prove me im right. They are a Team with some powerfull offense players. Anyway I think in the last game they was benefited for a US bad defense. We will need do it better than them. We will need attack them more than we did against Korea. I think they soft spot is in their defense, so we cant not give the ball so easily like we did or are screwed.
This could really go either way. Ghana I feel are the very slight 'underdogs' however if they stay focused they can pull it off. From the get go I fancied Ghana as the African team to do the best... now lets see if they can make history and get to the Semis.... GO GHANA!!!!!!!
I notice that all teams Uruguay beat are not physical and Uruguay push them off the ball. Mexico, Korea and South Africa not physically strong teams. Ghanaians are very strong and they will not let Uruguay outmuscle. This could be interesting, but I can see Uruguay struggle like with France.
