107' is a good case study in why MLS instituted it's draconian DR yellow card this season. Brazilian defender just flicks the ball over the signboards when he wasn't even the one who was sticking around the take the throw. So it takes more time for his teammate to get the ball. Who, in turn, delays and wastes time. Kicking the ball over the signboards was the start of it all.
109' I hate that foul. The croatian is facing his own goal and gets kicked pretty hard. I know they wanted to play quick, but I think that's got to be a yellow. The attacker was never going to get it.
I was half watching. Did he call the foul? I though the GK kept possession and he let them play fast.
Oh he called it. He just let the GK take the free kick 15 yards back to get the ball in immediately. This is a bad foul.
I know a lot can happen in four years, but you have to think Michael Oliver just put himself in pole position for the 2026 World Cup final. He’s been so, so good today.
109' and 121' I can't understand that these were not cautions. One pass each way. Don't get it. That said Lalas calling Oliver out for "not having a very good game" is not analysis that I agree with. Alexi got this one wrong.
I get that. Just me, the fan not thinking it works well. That's it. I'm not assuming Oliver pulled up in his car, opened his trunk and asked his partners 'what color you want to go?'
If England lose tomorrow, he’s at least in the discussion. But four years is so long. And so many other factors. Plus I’ve long learned there’s either no real pole position for that match OR it rarely matters or comes to fruition (see Faghani).
