It failed though. I don't think Sneijder even knew Robben was going to do that :D.

    Not really.

    Brazil better 1st half
    Holland better 2nd half

I thought on paper we were dead-even, but you need luck in the end sometimes to win games, and we got a bit lucky on the 1st goal

It wasn't defense. It was everything. I am saddened to say but although this team played the best football on WC and probly in years ... they did not have the winner mentality and went down as a joke. Deserved to be a laughing stock for a while IMO

How on earth is it possible that at this professional level, ONE player can lose a game for the team

    FELIPE MELO

This guy will get crucified and deservedly so,my sympathies for the Brazilian team.

I would not call it ridiculously lucky, because Niederland has its merits and is a great team that did profit over brazilian defensive errors.

However, I must say that strategically, Niederland never outplayed Brasil and if I were dutch, after all the deserved celebration, I would be worried because I don't see this team capable to win Spain, Argentina or Germany.

Until Brazil played with reckless abandon in search of the equalizer in the latter stages of the match, the Netherlands did not create a single chance from the run of play.

A poor game by most of the Brazilian team, especially Kaka (should have scored) and Cesar.

The constantly-flopping Robben is an embarrassment to the sport. Real shame. He's a great player.

Von Bommel deserved to get 3 or 4 yellows. As the commentators observed "What's he have to do? Kick the ref?"

Nonsense, Brazil became discombulated after giving up a fluke goal. Great teams keep their composure and the Samba boyz were lucky it didn’t end 3-1.

Um, I don't see how Dunga had anything to do with Brazil losing.

I doubt he can help it if his players suddenly decide to go about kicking other players with studs.

Brazil lost because brazilian players screwed up.

and P.S - Ronaldinho wasn't chosen because he was too busy partying and getting drunk to even show up to practice half the time. Google for it.

Correction...Bad news for "The Lebron James Channel" ratings prospects. Won't be a horrible tragedy, but it doesn't help.

is this all you have to say after all the trash talking? i am sorry but you have been the most pro-brazil person of all.

is there a brazilian that gets into a world 11? no

brazil is a farce. just like pele's "1000 goals"

i said it since that dunga announced his squad. world cups are won by subs you can bring on. lippi had people like del piero in 2006, dunga leaves out dinho, adriano, and pato and brings grafite and nilmar. thats great coaching!

Maybe, but these games were not exciting because of the football itself where 2 equal teams meet, but because of everything else. This might be nice football for those who don't watch tactics and movement but for anyone who like to analyze and actually think about games ... this WC is total dissapointment. When teams beat themselves (like it happened in both games you mentioned) ... the game is not beatiful to watch. It is pathetic

There was absolutely nothing "dirty" with the way Brazil was playing. We were doing well, and pretty much controling the match in the first half. Dutch players were diving and whinning in every single chance they had. Second half everything changed from two simples mistakes by Felipe Mello. Netherlands got lucky with the equalizer and Brazil could handle it's own nerves. Drop this silly "arrogant" pose. Everyone was trying to win out there.

The Dutch can possibly "choke", but this result should be a huge confidence boost. Uruguay/Ghana can give them a game if thats what you mean.

Felipe Melo should never ever be allowed to play football anymore.

Anyhow, it's really pathetic to see how some losers (in the literal sense of the word) on this forum try to belittle the Dutch performance in each and every way.

In the first half, Brazil was way better - they could have decided it. In the second half, the game began to tilt and gradually the Dutch became better. You can down play that and pretend it was just Brazil becoming worse, but that's a big load of BS.

What? I expressed my concerns on how Kaka is the only playmaker for BRA and if he goes out or becomes invisible which happened on every match somewhere in 2nd half, the BRA will have no real attack. I was right and when Melo made that tackle I knew they are going home.

I am still convinced they play the best football on this WC but they simply did not have the psyche needed for being WC champions.

    Re: Match 59 (QF) - Netherlands v Brasil - Post-Match Thread [R]

Great game by Holland. You did what you had to do -- especially pressuring us after the first goal. We had an opportunity to kill the game in the first half, but did not or could not. Iron law of football: quem nao faz, leva.

    Other observations:

    1) What an implosion by Brasil. We should have cooled the match off after we gifted Holland with the equalizer. We didn't have the presence of mind to do that.

    2) Melo. I don't even know what to say. Shocking. A beautiful assist, an own goal, and a red card. WTF? He has so much potential, but he lacks mental fortitude. I really don't understand what he could have been thinking.

    3) Dunga. Fail for not having a deeper bench to change the game. Fail for not instilling discipline in Melo. He asked to do things his way, and got the opportunity. Fair enough. Now face the consequences and the critics with humility.

    4) Pretty lenient officiating by Nishimura, especially toward Von Bommel. Thought he deserved a booking earlier in the match for excessive fouling. Still, we should have focused on winning the game rather than officiating.

Again, congrats to the Dutch for a well-deserved win.
