Re: Post Match: Match 5 - England vs. USA - June 12 You were wondering if we would be here after the match?
People are overrating Howard's performance. All english shots were straight at him. He is a very good keeper, but this game was easy for him.
Anybody just see that Adidas ad? Agreed, will take the point. Now we need at lest 4 from the next two matches. We get 6 and we might win the group on GD.
why is everyone getting upset? yes england should beat the US, but england didnt play well and the united states showed they can cope. Dempseys goals was lucky but I think we played well enough to earn a draw.
He got full studs in the chest and held that ball canoned at him. He was in control and that is what was important.
The U.S. wasn't "lucky". Either the U.S. defense did good in negating him, or Rooney was shit today... what was it?
I thought both teams were relatively poor, even though the US will obviously be happier with the result. England were there for the taking on the break in the last 30 mins, but aside from Altidore's chance, the US created nothing in the 2nd half. And of course their only goal was from complete joke goalkeeping. As for England, they showed weakness at goalkeeper (ha!) and against pace in central defence. Plus Rooney was way below his best. A pretty sobering performance for those who have high expectations of them.
Not trying to start anything but...Rob Green is the new Tony Romo in sports right now, and for those who watch american football....you know what i mean lol
Great game by the US. Shows how they're able to compete with the world class opponents. Howard MOTM for sure.
This was basically a win for the US. They could have easily got nothing if England had kept on playing like they did in the first 20' or so, so to come away with a draw is very handy indeed. As for England... all the old cliches spring to mind. Capello came into this job to put them to rest but as he watched his team he must have been thinking 'did I even make a difference?'.
I disagree. I think the US did a great job of keeping Rooney largely out of the match. Demerit get much credit for that.
What does that have to do with being a good keeper? Sure he was in control and gave confidence to his backline, but compare his saves with the ones made by the Nigerian keeper earlier. Or South Africa's. I'm not saying Howard doesn't have quality! Just pointing that this game wasn't even a proper test of his skills.
