Webb's whistle sounds....well, I don't really know what it sounds like since I haven't legitimately heard it in a while. Is the crowd that loud that we can't hear the whistle? Anyone else noticing this?

I had this problem with the World Cup 2010 socks. Had to wear an extra pair of socks under them for years. Don't have the same problem with my Umbro referee socks. Maybe adidas just makes them looser?

Did Brazil kick the ball to their keeper and he caught it?

    SECOND HALF

46 – Contact in midfield, no call, left Y6 player down – not a foul.
    47 – FOUL Y? tripped R? did AR2 call this?
55 – FOUL Y7 Handling – and CAUTION to Y7 for using the arm in an attempt to score a goal.
DISALLOWED Brazil GOAL! The replay shows what appears to be use of the arm during a chest trap. This is a major decision and very controversial decision.
57 – FOUL Y? tripped R? – Webb ignored Brazil’s coach yelling from just feet away.
    59 – FOUL Y17 charged R4
60 – FOUL Y17 tackled R8 – contact was heavy and from behind! CAUTION Y17. Good decision.
    61 – FOUL Y5 charged R5
    63 – FOUL R4 tackled Y?
66 – FOUL Yellow (couldn’t make it out, TV cut away quick)
    69 – OFFSIDE Y10 by AR1.
    71 – FOUL R7 tripped Y?
78 – FOUL by Red (not sure what the call was)
    79 – R18 tackled Y?? – had a slightly tactical feel, but only a foul given.
    81 – OFFSIDE Ref by AR2
84 – FOUL Y7 tripped R? – Y7 mouthing off to Ref after, he should remember about his prior caution.
    90 – Minimum of 3 minutes added
91+ - AR2 gave throw in to Yellow, Red protests.
    93+ OFFSIDE Red by AR2
    FULL TIME @ 94:00

As far as I can see the players are always stopping. So, I'd have to conclude that it's more of a microphone problem in a stadium that is VERY loud.

Yep, at 84:43, but I think everyone treated it as a misstuck clearance (including the Chileans who didn't complain at all)

    Red for Jo?

nm, a yellow, but a sendoff would not have been inappropriate

Eh, nah. But I'd really consider a booking there... and he gives it. Well, done.

I think caution, for two reasons. One, he doesn't catch him. If he did, easy red. 2. If he gives that he may not get out alive. That's not hyperbole, either.

The fact that he was almost completely on-the-ball saved him. It showed where his focus was and lessened any potential impact. The nature of the challenge meant it was inherently reckless, but just not enough force to get to SFP, despite the height of the challenge.

Given who the referee was and given what he's dealt with for the past four years regarding De Jong, I don't think #2 was a concern at all for Webb. I also would imagine the AR, who had a clean look at this, helped with the choice of misconduct.

Not wishing to jinx it, but after 98 mins, aside from Fernandinho not getting booked for PI, this has been a great performance by Webb (and team!) in IMO the most challenging game to referee of the tournament thus far. I hope the next 22 mins passes by without incident!

I think I'd lean toward caution here, but damn is that close. The ball was quite high... does he have a reasonable chance to make this play with the foot? I think it's reckless, but very close to red, a foolish challenge IMO.

But what if his foot slid off of the ball and caught his chest? Had similar in an earlier match - foot slid off ball and got leg - red.

I thought there was slight contact. But at this level I agree with the caution.

    EXTRA TIME

    PERIOD 3

    91 – FOUL R2 pushed Y7
93 – FOUL Y21 kicked Red Keeper… Caution Y21 for high boot studs in… wow, he’s lucky not to have seen red on this play! (Remind you of anything?)
    95 – FOUL Y11 pushed R7.
    96 – FOUL Y10 tripped R5. Correct, good call.
    102 – FOUL by Red ? – Restarted quickly.
    102 – FOUL R9 tripped Y? CAUTION to R9 for UB
    104 – FOUL Y4 tripped R7(?)
105 – FOUL by Red, didn’t see it.
    105 – OFFSIDE Y10 by AR1
106+ – FOUL Y2 (body block?) held R, Y2 CAUTIONED either for tactical, or more likely dissent.
    END OF PERIOD @ 106:20

So do WC rules provide a break between Periods? I thought they were supposed to just switch ends? Weather concession?

Thought we almost had a Mike Tomlin moment with the Chilean manager there on the touchline.

He got hit by a clearance during a Brazil attack unluckily there leading to a Brazil attack once again and almost gave Chile a softish free kick as a bail out.
