Perhaps a sign that Siebert is going to get a semi-final?

    Hmmm.

Are we surprised Brych got another assignment? Folks seemed unimpressed with his handling of BEL-POR

Or he’s just really freaking good and has done it over and over at the highest levels and that overcomes him having one bad game?

Generally, I support that view, but....
    • his last game was just too poor
    • his last game was just too recent
    • his next game is just too big
Now, he may very well go and "blow the doors off it" - and I truly hope he does - but UEFA are setting themselves, and him, up for all sorts of criticism if he doesn't.

    Why, take the risk?

Nationality doesn't matter really. It is just that some have a mixed team and others do not. It is no secret the VAR of the Eredivisie is one of the best in the world, hence the many assignments in 2018 despite the politics, yet here they are only made part of mixed teams. As if they aren't trusted. Then there are other countries - and refs who mess up - that don't have this.

You understand that 2018 Makkelie was part of a mixed team in every single one of his assignments, right? Oh and that Makkelie, the guy you’re citing from 2018 is now there as a ref. And the Netherlands has double referee representation which is, you know, not something most nations get. Also that Blom, a Dutchmen, is one of only two or three VARs who is considered to have “messed up” at this tournament.

Of course not. Because whatever you’re trying to argue here doesn’t seem to concern facts or nuance. But if it makes you feel better, so be it.

ENG v a bunch of keepers. Maybe my old eyes but white and yellow not a great contrasting combo.

31’ Brych really just doesn’t want to call the easy stuff. It’s like he’s worried about foul count the past two matches and has put himself on a quota.

Don’t see too many false positives by that wide of a margin, like we just did with the 39’ offside call. VAR would have saved him if it went in, of course.

Especially considering how much more obvious are so many non-flags.

Strange CK to GK over rule there. AR signaled obvious CK...restarted with GK.

No no, it's fine if HE'S offside. It's also fine if he pushes someones head down. It's McGuire lol!

And that's why I am still ok with this procedure, despite how ridiculous it seems sometimes when it feels too obvious. Because no matter how good the ARs are at this level... Thinking it's obvious on the field is different than seeing it on TV. I like the safe than sorry approach and allowing VAR to award a goal vs just taking them away.

I'm not getting involved in the political issue but will note that Blom is a very mediocre CR. I can say this with some certainty as I've seen him referee for a lot of years now in Dutch league matches. Gozubyak is much better as is Higler.
