Even when correct, Twellman is still annoying.

Very quick review on a very layered offside decision at 14’. Kudos to VAR crew.

No AR would ever get all those things consistently right in real time.

I think you're being generous. That was offside three (EDIT: at least two, possibly three--depends if Chiellini touched the ball) different ways. Sure, all three were tight to an extent and each one is difficult in its own right. But to not put the flag up at all there means you missed three offside infractions. More is expected of an elite AR.

Would not have had a problem with a caution on Telemans

    Edit: came out late

Good caution for Verratti at 20'. Good signal for Vincic not to try to ignore that in the defensive third.

That smile Twellman was talking about from Chiellini isn't a smile, it's a primate threat display

I love how a goal can suddenly relieve the ankle pain.

I think we might be looking at the eventual tournament winners if Italy are going to play this way.

Nothing cures an ankle injury (that just 10 secs earlier was paralyzing) more than a goal by your team mate. Instantly fixed.

I’d lo see a replay of that foul on the challenge of the keeper.

True. But it was the correct call.
Stupid on part of the defender.

Trying to figure out why they were even checking that on VAR, what was there to review?

All penalties are checked via VAR. We've got to dispel the myth that a check means the VAR definitely thought something might have been wrong.

They'd be checking the veracity of the actual foul from multiple angles. They'd be checking the inside/outside nature (which is pretty easy here, but still needs probably two angles). Then they have to go back to the start of the attacking phase to make sure there was no offside and attacking foul. Of all those things, the veracity of the foul itself is probably what they spent the most time on. But all must be done.

You can quibble with how long the VAR check took. But the check itself has to happen.

They all get reviewed. Benefit is, there can never be a gripe about whether one not reviewed should have been.

Is Vincic getting himself in the passing lanes a lot or is it just me?

Running lanes too. Feel like I've seen others in similar straits, been wondering how much is to do with doing games with players outside usual domestic seasons.

Well there was no delayed flag, so I guess we know what that means about this AR.

I'd be saying a little something to the ITA keeper about restarts so I wouldn't have to say a big something later
