Compare that (soft) foul called against Wirtz at 95' to the no-foul above the top of the penalty area in 90'+2'. I get they're in different areas of the field, and there can be some wiggle room in that. But there's just been no consistency at all in this performance from Taylor. Sometimes a hard or late challenge in a YC, sometimes it isn't. Sometimes a nudge in the back is a foul, sometimes it isn't. It's no wonder the players on both teams appear bewildered and frustrated.

For something in a similar area of the field, throw in 103'. No foul called against Spain in the middle third; Germany got called for basically the same thing in the same area at 95'.

Taylor has been trying to referee the game based on vague "expectations" for each individual incident, rather than taking the lead and setting the expectation himself.

Derek Rae does all the Bundesliga matches for the BBC and is fluent in German. He takes a lot of pride in pronouncing the names correctly.

I’m sure they are all perfect pronunciations. Didn’t mean it in an insulting manner. It’s just weird to hear how some of these german words and names are “really” pronounced

Also hearing Rae vs his color guy pronunciations is funny as well

Surprised the check-complete was so fast. I've been watching too much Copa America. There it would've been a 3-minute long check with no review at the end.

He was pulling his hand towards the body even though it was still away AND it’s in ET of a Euro knockout. Never being called.

The arm is well away from the body when the shot is taken and then the arm moves into the path of the ball while also bringing the arm into the body. Probably a PK but like I said it isn't a fun spot for Attwell.

I think it's a debate between whether the arm started out unnaturally bigger versus whether or not he is trying to minimize his body area as he comes across. This would be controversial either way. And probably one of those that is an expected call in some places (Italy, South America) versus an expected no-call in other places (England). I mean, it's just right on the border, right? Six inches in either direction relative to his hip and it's an easy call one way or the other.

I guess once you don't call it on-field, check complete is right best answer.

I think the title "FOX's [insert tournament name] rules analyst" is a type of brain worm that causes its victims to completely lose any sense of objectivity.

This is pretty much my opinion. The arm is sort of close to the body when the ball hits it, but it starts so far way from the body that I have doubts about calling this a natural position. It certainly creates a barrier.

I'm leaning penalty, but it's subjective enough that I like the check-complete too.

That they got a very borderline tough call that they had to adjudicate?

Not everything is about the Netherlands.

Forceful contact to the head there, I would prefer a yellow card.

I presumed Kimmich was on a yellow and that played a role in the decision, but no. Seems like an easy yellow he should have taken there.
