What kind of translator do you use?
    Google actually translates:
Palermo striker, notes 'The Journal', went even further, with statements full of venom: "Tell me why this Italian team there is not one of Palermo. You know why? Why Lippi has never come to see us, has never gone down to Palermo. Foreigners are the World of Palermo, Palermo Italian we not, we finished fifth and are at home while Juventus are in a group. "

I agree totally. Quagliarella is one of the few true talented players that Lippi carried in South Africa, and he was in a superb condition too.
All the italian offensives in second half went through his feet.

He went out of the stadium in tears.
We should't forget that in this game he scored a very beautiful goal, he contributed to the other italian goal, and had two scored goals denied by the Refs. (one uncertain offside call and one shot that a slovakian defender kicked back a few centimeters beyond the score line).

Blame on Lippi for deploying him only in the second half of the game (and only in the third game of the WC).

And congrats to Slovakia for winning! :)

    Watched the last 25min...wow!

Italy certainly has claim for a wrongly called offside (as the above post shows) and possibly a ball over the line (probably not).

my Spanish and French are pretty good. it was intended as a humorous sight translation, with liberal use of false cognates. sorry for the confusion. :)

That would be about it. I wasn't a big soccer fan then and only watched the last half when I went over to my father in law's house in Germany. He had the game on and called me in to watch the Americans. Now that I know it was the WC I can at least understand more why they were so harsh. I was thinking it was a friendly or something. But dang, the Italian fans are worse than a bunch of U-little soccer parents.....

To be fair soccer daddy imagine if the 1992 Dream Team beat Angola by a basket what kind of outrage would ther have been in the US.

I know what you mean but to look at it from another perspective:

It might just be thanks to the high expectations of those Italian fans that Italy does so well, so often. Each one of those players knows what that country and its supporters expected of them. That's why they should be worried about the reaction they're going to get back home...but it's also why this kind of thing hasn't happened since 1974. Double edge sword.

I much prefer it to a team and group of supporters who are eternally optimistic and feel that they're always the best and get no results and hugs when they fail.

Italy looked terrible! No cohesion or..sense of urgency whatsoever!
I am not a soccer coach-baseball is my sport for over 50 years!

But--I DO know--that a "soccer country" like Italy- has no excuse to tie a "minnow" like New Zealand...& LOSE to Slovakia...! Obviously someone should be held accountable.

That Italy---came in last, in the weakest group is nothing less than a national disgrace!

Honestly--I felt Italy might get beat today. They had looked listless in their first 2 games. And--When I saw that the ref--was from England--I knew....that the Brits are aware of "Italian diving"...& Italian players would cut back on this!

The game was officiated well-! I thought that Italy WAS 'offside'...on that goal....AND...that the ball did not completely go over the goal--when kicked out by the Slovak defender! Again..I'm not aware enough of the "selection" process...of who many should have been on the team, but obviously something was lacking.

You might want to change your mind after looking at post #100. As they say: "Them the breaks."

The tough thing for the offside call is that the defender wearing white is the player closest to the linesman, but you can see from the camera that the blue torso of the Italian player is clearly in front of him. The linesman is going to call that offside almost every time if he looks straight across the line and sees a full blue torso, even if a defender's foot might be barely keeping him on.

Gotta say, Im really impressed with the Italian fans in here. They must be gutted, but they're behaving w/grace and dignity. Not like some of the guys 8 years ago. Gotta say, a lot of class, congrats to you guys on being an example as dignified fans in defeat.

As for Italy. I imagine their fan base was very worried and quite a bit pissed when they saw the glorified AARP squad Lippi decided to drag to S. Africa. Now it's unfolded as I and plenty of others have predicted. I expected Italy to crash out early, but w/their draw, I assumed it would be in the QF's after defeating whomever finished 2nd from E. Instead, they played far worse than even I expected. A total disaster, but a necessary one perhaps. Its just a shame. Simply taking Rossi alone would have probably gotten them to the QF's, instead, he bought his over the hill gang, and they got escorted to the airport immediately in 23 lark's.

Cheers to Slovakia. A team nobody expected to even qualify out of a deep, if not super talented qualifying group. Instead, they qualified, and then played the game of their lives today getting their first world cup win ever against the defending champs. What a wonderful sight, and truly the tale of soccer to see the joy of victory and agony of defeat etched on every player and coach on that field. A tribute to soccer.

It was a good game but only for the last 20mins. Italy played the first 70mins like they where already through to the next round. Had they played like that through the group stages they could have won all three games. The next one we'll be seeing a different Italian team on the field.

wow. population of slovakia is 5m, less than ten percent of italy. new zealand is 4 million, paraguay is 6. how did that happen, and why did you need to be 2 0 down, in the final 10 mins of the final match to finally wake up and play football? and even a draw would have seen you through.

Perhaps I think it was such that an onside call could barely be defended but frankly I
don't have a lot of sympathy for complaining from side that denied New Zealand two points and a round of 16 berth through dive. Live by the bad call die by thw bad call
