Maybe I missed it, but with Donnarumma as captain, who is the allocated Italian player to communicate with the ref on the pitch?

I haven't heard a good answer for the situation where the gk is captain.

There may be a few silly TV commentators: “Jorginho is talking to the referee but he is not booked” :)

I read somewhere that if the GK is captain a field player can be designated to speak to the ref.

That's what the blog boys said. Apparently Jorginho is the designated player today.

How did that yellow card to the Albanian player for the swing/elbow to the Italian player who was holding him work with VAR?

It was clearly given via VAR, but it's not within the protocols unless they are hiding behind mistaken identity.

There's been a couple of times where it looked like a player wants to run at the ref to argue but then stops. Still waiting for that real moment when the ref needs to take action. Still predicting Portugal/Turkey.

He almost got mobbed twice and got the players to settle down.

In the end it was a fairly easy match to call at this level.

Wasn't Buffon the Italy captain for a long time? Communication seemed to work ok then.
