Match #39 - Poland v. Argentina

France is on fire. Knockout games are odd, but I see nothing in this team to suggest they can withstand France. No attack, poor defence, can't really pass. Offensively only Lewandowski and Zielinski.

 

Problem Lewandowski is almost playing alone there, his teammates will be all behind the ball, it's not the same thing as playing for Bayern or Barcelona.

Barely 6 shots on goal per match for Poland vs over 20 for France

 

I think the way Poland parks their bus will be more effective against a team liké France than against a team liké Argentina. I might bé wrong but France and Argentina don't play the same football and I also see Poland have more opportunities in counter attacks against them.

 

I don't really see anyone in Poland being able to make those counters work. Someone still has to pass the ball to Lewandowski.

This isn't Croatia.

 

I picked Poland to advance in my predictions but felt sorry for Mexico fans they at least dominated their game against Saudi Arabia , but Poland got a cool goalkeeper . And Lewandowski so not a bad R16 team!

 

Poland will "try" a bit more against France for sure since it's a play-off match, today they played all match as if they were defending a lead, which they were in a way.

 

But tbh France dismantled Australia low block much better than I predicted.

I do think Poland will be much harder for them than Australia, but will be a massive scandal if France or Argentina fail to go ahead, and France even rested a big part of their players, Griezmman and Mbappe played today half an hour or so, Poland players had to spend more energy today.

 

I guess I understand it strategically. It also helped that once Argentina went 2:0 up, Argentina wasn't really trying any more. Poland gambled and the gamble paid off.

Yea most of the guys are Below average but i have seen France struggling against thèse kinds of teams several times thèse last years. If France doesn't score early they can be in a dangerous situation.

Mexico had their chances and blew it in the first two games.

Poland had some bad luck too. Who would have thought Lewa would miss a penalty in that Mexico game?
If you think about it Mexico was lucky not to lose that game but hey sometimes you get breaks and other times you do not.

It is literally Szczesny, Zielinski, Lewandowski plus a half decent Szymanski. Glik is the only decent defender they have.

The rest are below average hacks.

 

I think France will struggle more against Poland than Argentina against Australia.

I was mentioning Australia vs France, no way they will match Argentina. Not much spoken but Enzo Fernandez and Alvarez improved massively their performance today.

 

All I want to see now is a video of Argentinian fans surround that stupid Saudi fan who's been mocking Messi with his "Where is Messi" thing. Serves him right

 

They won't match, but they seem much more resilient than Poland.

 

England vs Senegal and Holland vs USA seem like much more entertaining and unpredictable match ups.

 

Australia? What they did was more impressive than Poland, but I actually felt Scaloni today found his best 11, Argentina will go straight to their necks from the start.

 

Absolutely, still expect England to go ahead by small margin but for me the USA has better tools to beat the Netherlands.
