Match #37 Italy : Austria Saturday, 26 June 2021 20:00 local time (15:00 EDT) London Referee: Anthony Taylor (ENG) AR1: Gary Beswick (ENG) AR2: Adam Nunn (ENG) Fourth Official: Sandro Schärer (SUI) Video Assistant Referee: Stuart Attwell (ENG) AVAR 1: Chris Kavanagh (ENG) AVAR 2: Lee Betts (ENG) AVAR 3: Pol van Boekel (NED)
Good early caution by Taylor. So surprising to see an early yellow card at these tournaments. Very low chance that's given at a World Cup.
Meh. It was pretty bad. If Taylor is giving that there, I think we can expect any of the top referees to give that at a WC.
Even when correct, VAR on offside is ruining the game. Also, I’d love to see some cards for simulation. It’s getting out of hand.
You genuinely seem to be the only person on the board upset about alleged simulation. I would suggest maybe it’s not “getting out of hand.” I honestly have no idea what you are referencing in this match that needed a yellow. Also there were two, maybe three cards for it during the group stage.
74’ is fascinating. And Clattenburg is wrong again. The VAR can’t give offside unless there’s an actual penalty.
And Taylor did restart with offside. Wow. Either a mistake in application or they were willing to give the penalty without it. Hmm. Unless the AR called offside in real-time? I only saw the goal kick signal.
We literally had an Italian player who thought there was going to be a challenge on the ball throw himself to the ground when instead, the Austrian went for the block. He wasn’t touched and pretend his ankle was broken. This was followed by a simulation at the D of the Austrian PA. The CR waived it off and shook his head.
Okay so Arnautovic called offside. Position easy. The Italian defender, though, looked like he got a piece of the ball just Hinteregger plays it forward. If he was trying for the ball but didn't get it first, would his touch then constitute a play on the ball? e2a: I realize my facts might be wrong, if so treat this as a hypothetical
But the waived off incident in the penalty arc very well might have been a foul. And I missed the other incident you’re talking about. I just think you see a rash of misconduct where others don’t. You’re obviously entitled to your opinion but in a world where no one on the field seems put off by what you’re seeing, my argument is you’re advocating for something that very few people want.
News flash: don't have to play the ball out for a pulled hammie, it's not like it's a head injury or something. (From ABC audio in the US)
Actually, I see a rash of attempted cheating and FIFA, the various FA’s, and referees with out the intestinal fortitude to end it. The said can be said for dissent.
Better call the coaches or his partners, find out what colors they are wearing and tell them he’ll be coming in hot.
Yes. This one is way beyond what's reasonable. But sometimes I think the ARs are getting themselves into a weird time loop Afraid to put the flag up at first then realizing they waited too long at the outset but now feeling like they can't because maybe there could be a goal until finally, the other team gets it and then they take away the counter...
More understandable for an AR new to the video review world, but that's not who was on this game, was it?
