Not really. Moving onto the next round with this team was unthinkable. Eventually, they'd have had to forfeit, and that would have meant no Euro 2012 and no Brazil 2014. Which would be worse.
to me this was one of the better games offensively france played. i feel sorry for players like cisse (finally got to play in a wc and look what happens) and toulalan (classy dude). blanc needs to do what dungs did with brazil and get selfless individuals who will die for the shirt. team over individual. i look forward to seeing france in 2012
France didn't deserve to be playing at this Years World Cup and their coach showed no class after their defeat today. For a team that was lucky to make it they showed no heart or passion for playing the game. It would have been easier for them to just stay at home. If they are still in the top 25 teams in the World after all this thats a slap in the face to every team under them.
Rest In Peace for a while France untill you are Born Again. Go sing "Les Bleus" till then. Come back when you find selfless individuals who will proudly die for their shirt as "Fari" sugests.
The US 94 team weren't any better. South Africa nearly beat Mexico as well as France. They were poorly seeded. The 2010 US team would have struggled to get out of a group with Uruguay, Mexico and France.
True, we got in as the third place team in group (4/6 3rd's advanced). They only eliminated 8 of 24 in group in those days. Still, RSA put on a brave show. Had some decent chances for 3-0 in the first half when France looked stunned, and hit the post early in the second. They really needed to get all 4 because once Uruguay got up 1-0, the life went out of that one. I wish they'd have put Parker up top and let Pienaar play the wing in the second game, they looked much better, though it was France, so who can tell. Still, nothing to be ashamed about going out with four points. Usually, it's a good bet to see you through.
We don't even ask that much...Just want them to play their best and...try not to F*** up everything !
The USA in 94 was also poorly seeded. Switzerland, Romania and Colombia all had their best teams ever back then. Switzerland topped a qualifying group with eventual finalists Italy and Portugal. Colombia smashed Argentina 5-1 in Buenos Aires and Romania had Hagi, Dumitrscu, and co. and went on to eliminate Argentina in the round of 16. I don't think South Africa's group was that much more difficult. Also, yes we finished third but we guaranteed qualification for the 2nd round after two games so that changed the dynamics of the third game (a loss to Romania). Didn't we rest Harkes and some other key players, can't remember exactly? South Africa played two really good games but blew it vs. Uruguay in that key second match imo. Getting 4 points from this group and beating France was a success for this South Africa imo.
