Considering their opponents have quit on sunday, it's not that surprising.

I'm French and the only good news for us in all this mess is that moral is safe: those who played with their heart are winning and the incompetents are losing.

    Congratulations to the Bafana Bafana!!

For France the nightmare should be over in 40 minutes now. Let's hope the mess will be cleaned up afterwards at all levels: from the players to the federation. We will need years to become again a serious team.

If Mexico concede one more would one more goal seal qualification for SA?

51' 0-2 RSA break in a 3-v-3, #8 Siphiwe Tshabalala brings ball right up the center to 25m. Passes sweetly to 12m midleft, as #9 Katlego Mphela cleanly burns his defender #2 Bacary Sagna at box top left post -- Sagna stops and gives up  Mphela strolls in so alone he looks way offside (replay show he was on) -- his one-touch beats #1 Hugo Lloris high right, but clangs off the crossbar.

Maybe, but Uruguay is also obliging in an extremely high energy game. All the stars are ever so close to aligning.

SA rocket from 24 out forces a corner. They have the power to score at least one more goal.

Well, they are watched by the whole planet laughing at them. The humiliation is strong till the end of the game.

Now I agree that, as I've written in my post, France will need years to become a competitive team again (and this if we have talents emerging in our youngsters).

France has come out more defensive in the second half. I still think RSA is done.

how so? The same team gave up against them 1 game earlier. The team implosion was essentially complete by halftime of the Mexico game. Everything since then has simply been icing on the cake. Mexico would have no basis to complain.

It would be unfair for either Mexico or Uruguay not to move on.

Watching their game I can see a gulf in tactics and technique when compared to this one.

Goal differential is the first tiebreaker
    then goals scored
    then a coin flip.

Then they "draw lots". Markers are placed in a hat and someone picks out one of them. The team on the marker advances, the other team gets to complain for the next year.

Yes, but that has nothing to do with their defending. Now when RSA runs at them, they have a proper line of defenders. Not so in the first half, when 7 out of 10 French players moved forward and left the back unattended.
