England won 2 olympic tournaments in 1908 and 1912. Which was the biggest football tournament at the time. (My great great uncle was the captain both times)

Football in the 08 and 12 olympics was not that big. The 24 and 28 olympics had more participants (6 countries in in '08, 11 in '12, 22 in '24 and 17 in '28) and are historically considered equivalent to World Cups.

Not very weird at all. Mexico is a possession oriented team. They had the same type of possession advantages playing against England at Wembley, and they still lost 3-1. It's just the way they play.

Possession means little, it's more important where that possession occurs.

But even that is not a good indicator, in the first half of the other match France had had a lot of possession in RSA's half.
