Fun start for Turpin. Already some serious Russian time wasting and a reckless tackle. Danish fans and players riled up.

YC for ugly wipe-out, 28'-ish. Could get uglier and more colorful at this rate.

Agreed with the above, though so far Turpin seems on it.

That should get Russia out of their shell.

Yeah he's up to it for sure. Just too bad the game he has is down to it. Maybe now we get restarts in the same century as the stoppages.

Is that a metric minute of 1H stoppage or what?

Apparently it too until Matchday 3 for Twellman and Clatts to find out that there isn't concussion subs. Which is pretty clear since they're only being trialed by IFAB.

C'mon man. That has to be a second yellow on Russia #13. Text book yellow.

Amazing, huh? I mean, Clattenburg is literally paid for his analysis on officiating and rules matters and, according to Twellman, he didn't know?

On the actual incident though, Turpin should have stopped play immediately. The ball went out five seconds later, so it wasn't horrificly bad. But if the attack didn't break down this would have been a very bad look for him. It was clear head-to-head contact and both players reacted in a way that suggested head injuries.

There's enough doubt about not being SPA that wide for me.

    C'mon.

If anything, not sending off the Russian defender in front of a home Danish crowd is the gutsier decision to make. You can disagree with the decision--I do!. But I don't think we need to be going after Turpin like this.

Turpin is not doing himself any favors relative to his late knockout stage chances.

Not giving a second yellow on that was truly awful. Following that up with a soft penalty for Russia is ugh.

I thought he was done as soon as he didn't give that second yellow. About as indisputable a mistake as it gets, in a big controversial moment.

Hey, I don't disagree. I just don't think it makes Turpin a chicken. It just makes him wrong. If anything, calling that penalty completely blows up the chicken argument!

I think he's got too much pedigree/reputation to be dumped on a perceived missed 2CT, given how we know UEFA and other bodies don't necessarily love red cards.

But for the soft penalty then to happen and, potentially, all of it result in Denmark being eliminated.... now, I don't think he survives if Denmark gets eliminated. If Denmark qualifies, he's maybe 50/50 at best.

At the moment the PK keeps Denmark in 3rd.

Was it gutsy to not give a second yellow there to Diveev there? He really could have. Would have been softish, and maybe a makeup call, but...

The penalty had an interesting component other than being, well, soft.

If it's given... well, how is that not DOGSO-red?

Imagine if the VAR had called Turpin over, not to overturn the penalty but to give the "missing" red card?
